NSW. Rego stickers no mwoah!

Post by Kermit »

Image
From 1 January 2013, registration stickers will no longer be required for light vehicles up to 4.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM). NSW Police use number plate recognition cameras to automatically detect if a vehicle is unregistered.

Removing labels for light vehicles simplifies the registration process, reduces red tape and will save time and money for the community and businesses

Please note: You must keep your current registration sticker on until 1 January 2013.

But.....you still get interim labels when you buy a new bike or car until they mail the papers out to you?

When was the last time anyone used a scraper to remove a rego sticker?

Ours are all normal stickers these days, the last time I saw one of the ones you soak in water was on one of the shit box old Austin A40 wrecks in my next door neighbour's yard in Sydney years ago.

hmmm..they tried this in WA a couple of years ago

the number of unregistered vehicle went up 500%
coz people got the notice and forgot to pay it (no sticker to remind them)
or
they changed address and got no sticker (coz the post returned it)
or OzPost lost it (it happens...)
or..other reasons

being able to walk out and check if your rego is current..coz you have a date on something
is a no-brainer. Try and find the original notice 10 months after it was sent....

its been discussed in Vic and thankfully our pollies (and Victoads) said ...no nup not gonna happen

Happens in SA all the time especially with fleet owners and it pisses me orf majorly when I take out one of the bikes for a ride I have to check online to be certain and thats if their webpage is actually working, besides we had this discussion here some time ago and it ended up with someone stating why not put a sticky note on the inside of your windscreen so you remember, what a clever idea

Yeah its an attractive option for a bike etc I agree but at $1000 fine and points? for unreg is quite serious, lets see how many of you forget to pay like I do.

people forget to pay rego - whose fault is that ? The governments ??? I don't think so. Being able to look in a manila folder on top of the fridge to check when rego runs out - dead easy !!! Rego label holders get stolen from bikes all the time, so not being forced to have one of these is a massive improvement.

Excuses for not knowing when your rego runs out are just that - excuses. (sorry Jonno  ). Lost your rego renewal form? Get organised and have a place to keep it, like all the other normal regular bills. People whinge about nanny-states and too much government interference - an yet expect somebody else to do their remembering for them !! what bollocks.

I have 9 vehicles that are all registered at some time or other during the course of any normal year. A couple on 12 months club rego (which is set and forget) , a couple which can be either 12 or 6 months - and the rest are 3-month only jobbies.

If I can remember 9 - then any normal dickhead should be able to remember 1 !!! its not rocket science - its just a rego renewal date.

Smitty, its only a matter of time before Mexico falls in line with the rest of the country. When the govt down there realise the money there is to be made with RAPID plate recognition technology busting unregoed vehicles - and the subsequent removal of 90-95% of the unregistered and uninsured shitheaps driving around that are using dodgy repro rego labels......well they will be all over it. Up here, its around $1200 in fines. This is a massive incentive to remember your renewal date

Gos...us mexicans were the first in the country with number plate recognition laws and setups to nab punters
and since then rego labels have been looked at..by the plod, by Vicroads and the pollies and the decision is..
you will get rego labels to be paid annually (6 monthly if pensioners)...whether on concessions, historics or normal registration

ps..
you need to remember that the push is still on down here for front plates on bikes ...with the rest of the country following

FFS !

How hard is it to ...

1. Write the renewal date on a calender
2. Set up a reminder on your computer
3. Do the same as above on your mobile phone
