"Kawasaki anticipates an early 2013 release for the non ABS version Ninja ZX-6R (636). Kawasaki will also continue to make the 599 cm3 version Ninja ZX-6R available."

Does this mean we'll still have the current model being sold alongside the 636 or will they have a 600cc version of the new model?

Haven't seen it in the flesh or had the opportunity to ride one yet, waiting for a few dealers to get back to me to see whether they have one in stock.

Being that its the abs version, the track junkies wont be attracted to them as much which may affect demand.

I'm not fond of that price, knowing kwaka they will discount it after a few months with there promo Kashback or free on roads.

If it aint that much better than my old 2010 six, its really hard to justify that kind of money; you could buy ten for that price and still have change.

I reckon there is gonna be some bargain 09-12 six comming up, perhaps just grab that and throw the rest on some track days & rider training.

Well by reading the write ups, everything is the same except the abs and traction control and some plastics.
Swingarm, frame all same. Forks more road orientated.

So no point in buying the new one for the trak.

2013 Kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja Homologation Special Edition

Image

When Kawasaki announced it was upping the engine displacement for the Ninja ZX-6R to 636cc, the immediate question on many Team Green fans’ minds was what it would mean for the company’s supersport racing efforts. Kenan Sofuloglu won the 2012 World Supersport Championship on a Kawasaki ZX-6R, but under the regulations, he may not be allowed to defend his title next season on the 2013 model as homologation requirements in Supersport racing series limit Inline-Fours to displacements smaller than 600cc.

Fear not however, as Kawasaki will be producing a special version of the ZX-6R with an engine displacement of 599cc, the same as the 2012 version. When Kawasaki last produced a 636cc ZX-6R from 2003-2006, it also produced a 599cc ZX-6RR for racing purposes. The 2013 Kawasaki ZX-6R racing homologation special will be available in Japan for a price of 898,000 yen (US$11,240).

The 2013 model will be identical to the 2012 version, with the same twin fuel injectors, Showa Big Piston Fork and claimed curb weight of 421.2 pounds. The MSRP includes a race ECU and subharness.

Kawasaki says the race homologation version will support racers in the ST600 class of the All Japan Road Race Championship, though it remains to be seen whether it will be available in other markets. Kawasaki is accepting orders in Japan from Nov. 1 to Nov. 21 with deliveries set to begin Feb. 1, 2013. World Superbike and Supersport regulations require a production run of at least 2000 units available 15 days before the last race of the season, so Kawasaki would likely have to expand this limited production run if it wants the 2013 Ninja ZX-6R to be eligible.

Had the opportunity to see the 636 in the flesh, unfortuantly no test ride available yet, demo available hopefully later next week.

The matte white is dissapointing; it looks like its been spray painted in the back of punchbowl's finest paintshop with rattle cans.

The chromed/anodized brake, clutch pedal & heel guards present on both available coloured bikes makes it look is a bit cheap/pimpin for my liking, but hey you're not looking at your pedles when riding.

The front forks, rear shock, front brake rotor & brakes have been changed. It is no longer sporting the subpar OEM BT016s. Overall build quality feels and looks better then the previous 6.

The lime green would be my pick of the two although not totally convinced about that paint scheme, it would really have to deliver sex on wheels to justify the $17.5K (incl on roads) asking price.
