Bent subframe on a 2005 zx636

Post by maggsy »

Hi all.

I was wondering if a bent subframe for a 2005 zx6 affects the bikes handling/usability or control? Basically is it dangerous to ride with one.

Thankyou

How badly bent? At the rearmost point of the subframe, how far left/right and up/down is it out of whack?

FYI if I remember correclty Laurie Alderton in Sydney will straighten a bent subframe for about $100, bike delivered to him with all plastics off, but I just brought a 2nd hand one off ebay out of the states.

Not sure how badly bent. I'm looking to purchase the bike as a track bike and havent seen it yet. Have been getting conflicting comments with some people saying it doesnt affect the ridability at all and others saying it's dangerous. Was just after some opinions.

I looked on ebay for some subframes and was speaking to a couple of people from the states though they all said they wouldnt post something that big to oz.

A bent subframe will not affect the way the bike would handle, all it would do is slightly adjust your seating position.

My original one was bent about 1 cm total from tdc, down and to the right when looking at the bike from behind. Never noticed it when on the bike. Changed it when we installed a full akra and pc3. Whole job took about 5hrs for 2 guys, but then again we're awesome

I wouldn't ride a badly bent one for fear of structural damage and unusual feeling on the bike,. The question of it being dangerous it up to you to decide because you'll be the one risking your and others' health; if you can't decide, don't ride it ;)

If your looking at a bike with a bent subframe carefully inspect the mounting points to the main frame for any sign of cracks. The subframe itself wont affect the rideability just the seating position but like has been said get it straightened or replaced from fleabay.

Try Laurie Alderton's for straightening or as others have suggested try eBay.
