I have already stiffened the whole thing up a bit for my riding style and weight. Questions, when going to a 17 front sprocket do you need to purchase one with the rubber damper or solid steel will do, is there extra noise vibration ? Question, obviously you sit more in this bike than on a 10R, the arse end feels low, any benefit in raising and what's everyone done. Question, do you guys run steering dampers? What sort ?

I know there's a few of you guys on here that have set these puppies up well, any and all info would be great.

Cheers
..great purchase.!
you will luv it (but then we all say that about our 12Rs)

I slung a front sprocket on...for easier take off more acceleration (and less top speed but who needs that these days with greeed cameras)
plus the obligatory speedo healer. 8)

re the setup, I like mine fairly plush, so at just over80kg, I did not do much
got the pre-loads right plus jacked the back up a tad to sharpen the steering
and now its a long range missile (low fuel use too) thats easy to ride but still steers :kuda:

..great bike !
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

How's this ? I take it the 12 has got a 17 litre tank ? If so, mine has now got 17 tooth front sprocket, I thought I would test the fuel range for highway cruising, got to 275 klms with last solid bar showing, filled up and put 15.3 litres in, I am stoked with this fuel range, sat on about 100-120klms hr for much of the 275....so with 1.7 litres remaining I'm guessing I could squeeze close to 300 out of it ?

The 12 has a fuel capacity of 19 litres. If you can squeeze 300km out of a tank, well done.

Just about every other ZX12R rider around the world (except Yoda  ) - reports a highway mileage figure of around 7l/100km (or about 34mpg in the old money). This figure of 7l/100km means a real-world range of about 260-270km. Around the burbs the mileage decreases to about 8-9l/100km (about 26-28mpg) - and a suburban range much closer to 220-240km.

These figures exactly mirror the mileage I get on my 12. If you get up it for the rent then be thankful if you can squeeze 200km out of 19l.

I know Yoda has reported 300+km out of a 12 tank - and I guess if you ride at 90-100kmh for 3 hours on a highway without *any* significant throttle variation - and basically ride with the throttles barely cracked open - then 300km may well be a possibility.

But personally ? I have never ever gotten anywhere near 300km. The best I have seen is 260 and that was with the last square flashing for at least 10 minutes, probably longer.

These bikes are not made for fuel economy. Not in any way, shape or form  . A PC does not change the fuel economy to any massive extent - its not like fitting a PC is going to suddenly make your 12 only suck 5l/100km around town......

Have a look at any other ZX12 forum around the globe. 99% of riders report exactly the same mileage figures - it just varies from shithouse to really bad.

260 would be good going and only ever seen more on my 05 12 bringing it back from Qld and thats because I had no choice and it was a particularly cool frosty morning in outback NSW.
Usually I bank on 240 on tour too the flashing bar, 220 around town or cruising the hills, giving it the berries about 200.

05 stock, 06 k&n cat killed fr sprocket ohlins, 04 cat gone bmc filters, all had stock cans and everything else.

I ran 95 whenever possible and no brand in particular.

I suspect some of us cant resist a little play with the throttle so thats a possible reason for those figures?

My mileage barely changed with all the mods. Its a 2005 B4.

Initially - just a Yoshi RS3 bolt-on.

That got ditched for a Yoshi half-system and slip-on, PC3, secondary flies removed, 17t front, BMC filters. I always run on BP 98 wherever possible. Mileage figures have remained basically identical since the bike was brand-new.......
