2010 zx6r Nissin callipers onto 2005 636

Post by jaeyon »

Hi all,

I'm looking to upgrade my brake callipers since the current stock setup (pads/discs) on the bike are due for replacing. I managed to source some 2010 zx6r brake callipers and pads off fleabay in the states. Just wanted to know what else I would need to fit them (e.g. do i need to purchase new callipers or a master cylinder)?

The plan is to leave the rear brakes standard and change the fronts only. I also have some stainless lines currently on the bike which suit the stock brakes but not sure if the fitting for the Nissins is the same.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
John

awesome! Any ideas if I can keep the standard discs I have now on the bike or if new ones are required?

Yep everything else is cool. Watch out you don't endo yourself over the bars the first time you stab the brakes though :)

Am i right in thinking that the 05/6 636 came with a Radial MC and the 04/05 10r came with an axial MC?

Yes, you're right.

just about to add that. Might be worth looking for a Radial MC. Not sure what the flow will be like without it.

you might find someone with a stock 07-12 zx6r MC or a 06-11 zx10r will do it also.

My 04 doesn't have the radial m/c. It works faultlessly with the nissins.

When I crashed Nemo and the Brembo radial MC started leaking, I put the standard one back on and it works fine; so you shouldn't need the radial MC.

Also, the standard ZRX MC works fine with the Nissin calipers too. ;) :kuda:

I just realised he is putting them on an 05 ZX6, so the bike already has a radial master cylinder.

The braided brake lines will also fit, but the mounting point for them on the Nissin caliper is a couple of inches higher than the Tokiko, so you will have a bit extra length to play with when you run them up to the MC.

It's only about an inch difference really.

But yeah you are right Nelso, it already has radial m/c

You're luck I didn't say it was 12 inches. Guys aren't well known to be very accurate when it comes to estimating short lengths.
