I can't tell any difference in any of the premium fuels on the bike, but the Van, the fourby and the boat I can.
They are all log-booked, and monitored, and the difference stands out like dogs balls. You can see patterns over a long period of time, which I think is quite telling. The van and the fourby are diesel btw.
The van, which is usually driving round under load performs worst on caltex, best on shell, and BP is somewhere in between, the difference between Shell and caltex is between 60-80 ks per tank.
The fourby, which the missus drives is mostly unladen, the results are the same, but the differences are a lot less.
The boat, which is petrol is always under load, has an accurately calibrated fuel monitoring system, as well as a log book. You can actually feel the difference on the boat, the motors run noticeably smoother on Shell.
The shell fuel will give me a 2kt quicker cruise with a 5l/h less fuel burn than caltex, again with BP in between, and this is borne out with the log books.
So after seeing this pattern over 18 months I now try and use only Shell, if not available I will use BP, and avoid Caltex.
