GO ON, SPLIT!

Post by laidback »

Australian Motorcycle News

From 1 February next year, the NSW government will launch a lane filtering trial in Sydney’s CBD. The trial will be observed by cameras to “monitor lane filtering behaviour at intersections and also detect whether traffic movement improves,” Minister for Roads and Ports Duncan Gay said. “The NSW Police CBD Motorcycle Response Team, recently funded by Transport for NSW, will be policing the intersections to ensure road rules are still being adhered to.” The trial will be confined to the area bound by Sussex St, Market St, St James Rd, Macquarie St, Alfred St and Hickson Road and there are rules.

• Riders can only move through stopped traffic at intersections
• No filtering in the gutter lane or turning lanes
• You must not cross the stop-line
• You must stay within a lane
• No weaving through moving traffic

Maybe they are considering the skinny white line as "our" new lane?

Just on another forum it was noted that they are allowing you to be ON the line and they are reviewing the no curbside part

From experience filtering on the inside lane can get hairy at times anyway.
Also, if you can't pull onto the stop line anyone filtering behind you is stuck between cars.

It is not illegal in Vic. It is in the roads act as lane sharing. It's rules state stay on RHS of car, lHS of lane divider, must be done safely, this means no large speed differential, no crossing lines, no crossing stop line at lights/intersection etc.

Dangerous Dave fought and won an infringement notice on this issue in Vic in 2001.

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?
