Can't help you with long term.
Buy they are a weapon of a bike with all the electric suspension and stuff.
Seating position won't suit everyone but.
Very Motard

Re: 2013 BMW GS1200
The new Multistrada is aimed more at tar/gravel riding where the GS is a more genuine off roader, the Ducati is actually quite sporty on the road with the 1198 superbike engine retuned with a 11 degree valve overlap.
Another thought is the 2013 Suzuki V Strom which is a very under rated bike (previous models i mean), a mate in brisbane has one and rides with his mate that has a GS1200 and goes everywhere he does at a fraction of the price.
Don't forget Triumphs Tiger range also, the 800XC is supposed to be great and the new 1215 Explorer is supposed to be a GS beater,
personally i would take the Triumph 800XC out for a demo ride.....most of them brand new are $15990 ride away

Re: 2013 BMW GS1200
The big Triumph explorer would need a massive re-design to contend with the BMW gs 1200.
It carries its weight very high.
The best thing about the BMW is its low carried weight. That. Boxer can't be beaten for weight distribution.
The multi-strata isn't really an off road beast. It's more a back road belter with a bit of unsealed roads.
Check out the Moto Guzzi stelvio. AMCN have one as their long termer as well as the BMW gs which was used in the adventure bike comparo.
If you want dirt. Get a bloody super tenere. (Spelling) not a flash road bike, but pretty good off road.

Re: 2013 BMW GS1200
Well I had a 2011 GS1200 with all the electronics and have never regretted selling any bike more than the GS...
The Guzzi is nice but it a huge bike...might test ride one though...
Hopefully the price on the current GS drops before the new one arrives as the triple black looks hot.
