shed find

Post by born green »

Well after my trip to QLD, i dropped in to see my old man out in western qld, been a while, 9 years.
So we watched the storm grand final, then the GP, and sat around talkin bikes and shit.
Next morn he took me out to the shed and showed me his collection of stuff, first time ive seen this twin fire GPZ 1100, he has.
It was all the other stuff i didnt know about, 3 spare motors, spare 1000 J frame, 3 spare tanks off a J, seats, wiring looms, boxes of brake calipers, headlights, speedo pods, wheels, a set of red 3 spoke wheels 17 rear, 18 front, i think off a turbo or GPZ of same era?? and a hole heap of stuff i cant recall.

two GT 750 shaft drives... why them i asked??? just stuff he picked up with other stuff he got.
A restored XS650 yamy from 76, nice old jigger that one.
A restored BSA gold flash with dusting sidecar, this one he has had for 30 odd years, just cancelled rego, as he can no longer ride or drive, sadly all these now just sit gathering dust as he is very unwell and has gone blind, only has sight in one eye of about 10% and other health problems, sadly i dont think i will get the chance to sit and chat about such things again, was a walk down memory lane for a bit, lathes and machiney just sitting there no longer able to be used... sad to see. there is no joy in getting old folks

Cheers mate,
yer i dont get up there much, hard to see, the old man was one of the toughest blokes ive known, spent his life out west pulling D8s and D9s apart in 45 dec heat all his life, even survived been run over by a dozer, and rolled a d8 once building a dam that one came close to killing him,

Im close to 52, and i know how long it takes me to recover from a day at the track, after sat at QR it took me two days to recover

Cheers tim.

Its a long time between vists, he rang me when i got home and said as such, said it was really great to be able to just sit around a shoot the breeze for a while.
The old man loves his bikes, rode them out west as a young bloke before he got married.
And looking at the BSA he restored is really good, any parts he couldnt get, he made or turned up on the lathe.
Same as the XS yammy he's got, looks real good, just a shame its never been ridin or left the shed.

Tho he did tell me he worries about me doing track days, and wished i didnt.... what i said to him u worried about?? starting to get on i asked???? dad i said, ive been doing them for 30 odd years and never crashed a bike on track yet.... so must have a little idea of what im doing,, he seemed a little more happy with that.

Yer, i get a bit slack at times. work and life get in the way... was really surprised by how much kawasaki stuff he has collected over the years..
I remember many years ago, him ringing me up and asking about something, is this worth getting hold of, once it was a jaffa he saw in some shed out west, and was it worth grabbing, that one was sitting in a shed for many years under a canvas sheet, he tried to get hold of it, but the guys son wouldnt sell it, so that one got away,
Same with the XS 650, he rang and asked was that worth getting hold of, shit yer i told him, now that is restored and now just gathering dust.
