Wearing in tyres at the track?

Post by Sparks_333 »

I have a track bike and am fitting a new Pirelli Sport Demon. I don't want to fit slicks as I want to keep it eligible for prod racing, but what's the best way to wear in a green tyre on the track? How long until I can push the tyre hard?

Thanks!

just take it easy for the first 2 laps even off warmers, who ever is fitting them should chemically treat to remove the release compound so its just a matter of riding carefully off the bat

Yep agree with rob, 1-2 laps then continue to up the pace, just remember somewhere like PI the left side of your tyre will be ready to push hard after one lap but your right hand side you may need to be a little more cautious with due to only two right handers that your fully cranked over for

Just wipe them down with Prepsol and then rip in straight away. You don't get to take it easy for two laps when you race and plenty of racers go out on brand new tyres and hook in from the get go. As long as they have been wiped down with Prepsol and had all of the wax removed they are good to go straight off the warmers.

The out lap will sort it all out for you.

Half of the outlap and you should be knee down

I don't have tyre warmers (one thing at a time fellas :-D ) but this mystical prepsol sure seems the way to go.

Cheers!

Track days without warmers is like sex on the beach. All of the excitement , non of the pleasure and it leaves a nasty gravel rash when your done. Sessions are to short these days to go without warmers. They are worth ten investment if you intend on doing a few td's
