ZX10R Akrapovic Slip On
Re: ZX10R Akrapovic Slip On
Might be right. It does drop low end performance but not as much as race headers - something to do with back pressure I gather. I have a lower cog that may compensate somewhat but I'm warned I need to get used to new gear change revs. Sounds better though!

Nuff said.. They couldnt even install my new rectifier properly when the recall was on.. And that was the head mechanic working on it, not an apprenticeKEL10R wrote:Newcastle Kawasaki, thought i was right but started to wonder, thanks for the heads up guys

Re: ZX10R Akrapovic Slip On
Just need to find a REALLY good tuner and they're hard to come by. What you have there in the picture is an 02 sensoer (Oxygen) which the Euro/Australian ECU'S run. So if you do get rid of the cat and go down the power commander road for smoother curves then you need to install an 02 optimizer from Power commander, also note the one listed on the power commnder web site is not the right one for the Australian model (serco wont sell you it anyway).
The reason it is needed it that the Zx-10's run a closed loop mode in 4-6th gears and from 0-20% throttle and from 0-75000rpm which is why your tuner will be putting the PCV in gear advanced mode. If you dont run the Optimizer/Eliminator the ECU will have a fight with the PCV and not sure what happens besides crap running.
I'll try attach the 02 instructions so it gives you a better idea of what it is doing. Note it is the wrong part number even though it says Zx-10r !! you need 76125020

Yes Valkau as you say it is standard on the Akrapovic link pipe, good luck sorting the tune out mate.valkau wrote:OS Optimiser was the word I was trying to say (it was late after all). Here's a couple of pics of work in progress. You can see the OS sensor in its socket. It seems the socket is standard for Akra link pipes. The mapping is still a challenge as everyone says. I think Ron now has 3 cyclinders running!

I am just about to go through the exact same process so i'll let you know how i go with the Tuning got one of the guys that works on one of the local race bikes on the case so should get some good results can compare the maps once i have them sorted. Also it is a good idea to get rid of the secondary air system when tuning.

Re: ZX10R Akrapovic Slip On
I was told by a mate that the power commander wasn't "necessary"even if you get rid of the cat converter. Is this true?
This is my signature and it can say whatever I want.
Re: ZX10R Akrapovic Slip On
It will probably depend largely on the type of pipe you put on, most of the exhaust manufactures do not recommend it as they claim it has the potential to lean the bike out to far and cause damage. A PCV or Bazzaz or Leo Vince is defiantly going to smooth out your fuel curve.
Saying that Macca from this forum is running his track bike with a graves system i think and stock ECU with 02 sensor in and says it is great ? So i guess the jury is out on what the real difference is, i guess the question is can the stock ECU and 02 sensor correct the AFR by it self with an aftermarket system on it ? and how well does it do it ? Send Macca a PM or something hes told me they boys messed with lots of different setups and found the Stock ECU was good.
I have the PCV but cant comment yet as it is still in the box waiting for the engine run in

Re: ZX10R Akrapovic Slip On
In the Instructions that come with the exhaust it states: Quote " WARNING: Akrapovič SLIP-ON exhaust system with OPTIONAL LINK PIPE for Kawaski ZX-10R, is RECOMMENDED to be used in combination with ECU fuel mapping enrichment, otherwise you risk severe engine damage!"Juggy wrote:I was told by a mate that the power commander wasn't "necessary"even if you get rid of the cat converter. good enough for me if i was installing the link pipe.

hey KEL10R.
How does this pipe sound, just the slip on. Read mixed reviews. Can't tell online watching vids and havnt seen any on the street to get a good look/listen etc.
Deep throaty or more of a tinny sound ?? Any feedback be great looking at getting for mine
cheers

Standard it sounds slightly louder than stock, but it comes with a removable baffle (8mm nut which is spot welded on takes a couple of moves with the spanner and the weld falls off) and with the baffle out it sounds quite good while still sounding legal ( i think i am getting 94dB but can check again if u want definite reading), if you want a full on throaty/deeper sound get the link pipe also to remove the cat converter, i had very loud pipes on my previous bike so didn't want that again. This pipe sounds throatier when revving and sounds great revving the bike and gives it a nice overall sound while not being too much louder,a bit more bass, while idling i.e warming the bike up in the mornings next to the neighbours house.
Hope that helps.
