Re: Anyone we know...?
If its the school Im thinking of on Elizabeth drive, it has flashing school zone lights and a speed camera (not a saftey camera) in operation.
Why would this cop then pull him over, other than to slap the book at him?
The camera is only on one side of the road, so if you are approaching on the opposite side and have no front number plate (like a bike), that would explain it.
LIDAR and with a identifiable happy snap of the rider?

It's still the law. Especially when there's big signs saying so on motorwaystim wrote:Not a law anymore I don't thinksmithy5 wrote:Or the morons that don't get the keep left unless overtaking rule. See it all day every day.

It only applies over 80km/hr, but is still a legal requirement.tim wrote:Not a law anymore I don't thinksmithy5 wrote:Or the morons that don't get the keep left unless overtaking rule. See it all day every day.

Re: Anyone we know...?
Yeah, I do realise that, but it would be far better if they had flashing lights at all of them instead of a set time and then set the time specific to each school's hours. Sure it would cost a bit more, but it would eleviate the ambiguity surounding school zone speed limits and create a safer environment when it is needed rather than creating an ideal oportunity to raise revenue.Wattie wrote:School zones are set times to make it easier for drivers to get right.
Complain lots! Then we will be doing 40 all year round, all day long!

As for school zones. The latest my school finishes is 2:35, yet the lower speed limit is in effect until 4:30. If you drive past the school at 4:25 it is a ghost town and all the gates are locked, yet you are still expected to drop your speed to 40. We have no lights on any of the signs around this district either, so you never know when the lower limit has started or stopped.
If the L plater doing 90 in the school zone was doing it when the students were arriving or leaving, then he deserves everything he got, but they never give the full story when they report these incidents so you don't really know if he was being an idiot or not.
100% agreed. Have been thinking this as soon as I saw the article but couldn't be bothered typing it.
Vincentia high has a 1km school zone that goes from 80 to 40. School starts at 7.50 and finishes at 2.10 every day.
How does the 'school zone help those kids'?
Seems to be ok to book people at 3.55 almost 2 hours after school kids had farked off though

Re: Anyone we know...?
The biggest problem is that you can easily get caught out when you travel on a regular route out of school hours so you get used to the normal speed limit. You then do the same route in school zone hours and you don't even think about it. I'm the last bloke who would exceed a school zone limit but I've done it in exactly those circumstances. Hence my argument that if they were really trying to save kids lives there would be every warning imaginable that you were entering a school zone yet in our area there's hardly any with warning lights. There's one on Annagrove rd which is currently covered by an overhanging tree.
In my opinion the RTA and the cops don't give a rats arse about keeping kids safe, it's all about generating fine income in a state that is f&@ked and a long way from home financially.

Yeah ANY dual carriageway with a speed limit of 80 or more, you are required to keep left unless overtaking, regardless of the speed you are doing. I found that young people are the worst offenders, so it's obviously not been taugh at licence time.Nelso wrote:It only applies over 80km/hr, but is still a legal requirement.tim wrote:Not a law anymore I don't thinksmithy5 wrote:Or the morons that don't get the keep left unless overtaking rule. Re: Anyone we know...?
cage trainign and testing in australia is a friggiong joke! its only there to pass the test, and the test is so simple a semi trained ape could do it (and possible has; drive through some selected sydney suburbs proves that point!)smithy5 wrote:Yeah ANY dual carriageway with a speed limit of 80 or more, you are required to keep left unless overtaking, regardless of the speed you are doing. youtube shit drivers australia, it's everywhere, every age in every vehicle
i got carved up by some arse hat senior citizen in a semi, texting, this morning! he just wandered over 2 lanes, sans indicators to turn left.
when he got a wave from me (using the middel finger only) and a suggestive beep of the horn, he stopped and decided to have a chat (twat!) blocking the side street completely, 1/2 the road he wandered over and a servo he was opposite!
maybe when police decide to get serious on basic traffic offences, the quality of driver might improve
I am a bilingual illiterate; i can't read or write in two different languages

Re: Anyone we know...?
Or not fast enough... So many clowns in Sydney use motorways and do 20 under the speed limit especially on the m4... There's no excuses when you got the great western highway 100m to the other side... If you wanna go 80 use the great western highway not the m4 idiots...... And to school zones everybody knows they are there everybody knows the hours they operate and If you don't you should look at the cars around you as what speed they add doing... I do 40 ks 5 mins either side just to cover my arse... I don't care if your riding my back wheel I ain't going any faster and I sure as hell ain't risking my licence for anybody particularly something as trivial as school zones... Flashing lights or not we all know the hours of school zones and clocks on board or not we all have a rough idea of the time... Sorry to drag on but beers and this got me boiled up...philbo wrote:doesnt exist in perth, is annoying when travelling on the freeway/highway,smithy5 wrote:Or the morons that don't get the keep left unless overtaking rule. I was having a dig at the licence test, not Gen "Y" (this time).
I asked my two, 20 & 22 year olds and they reckon they never heard of that road rule before.

My dad taught me to drive, and he taught me to keep left.
