All,

Anyone know if there would be legality issues with ordering a set of Road 3's from America?

Looks like a substantial saving over locally sourced items ($200ish) even accounting for shipping and fitting.

Check with who is fitting them............If they will do it or not, apart from hurting the domestic market, I have been told that legal issues could be a problem in the event of an accident.
Rocky Mountain MC does cheap ones as well.

I've had a couple of sets from Rocky Mountain. Never had any problems but I don't know what the legal ramifications would be if the tyres are different.

I've heard stories that they are softer compounds etc therefore don't last as long but I've not had issues.

You need a friendly tyre fitter to fit them though

No tyres made in Australia, so they are all imported by someone.

Got a set of Power 2CTs on the ten that came from Rocky Mountain - Significantly cheaper than $350 posted Fitted by my local repair shop, but was swapping servicable track tyres for road tyres.

Who would be a "friendly tire fitter" in Sydney?

Strongly thinking about a set of Dunlop Q2's... seeing that the rear Michelin is 6 years old !

Try to find someone that doesn't sell the brand of tyres you want to fit.

Down here it works a charm...they're quite happy to fit the other blokes tyres.

If you ride with any sort of aggresion the Q2s wont last you long I would look at roadsmarts instead of pilot roads.Better still metzler m 5s but last time i tried they wouldnt ship metzlers to australia.If you dont do much wet riding even the bridgestone 003s are a good option .
I normally get 2 sets of tyres at once as it works better with the freight All 3 of my zx9s like all the above tyres

I bought a set of pirelli's from overseas and then bought exactly the same tyres here. Interstingly the US purchased stock was made two months before purchase while the the aust bought ones were nine months old at time of purchase.

We are just about to lose one of the last independent tyre shops down here in Anarchy Road - which is a real shame. That will reduce the available market to basically 3 shops. Nothing to do with punters here bringing in their own tyres - but once he goes, there will be a lot of us doing exactly that.

If you do loose wheel fittings - you will find that just about any tyre place will be OK with fitting your imported tyres.

I really try to support my local guy, I do, but twice the price as I can get them in the states? Really!

Local fellas also tried that "Compound not suited for Ozzie conditions" BS, but you only have to know enough to look on the sidewall what the compound is...

I'll go and ask round town, but I suspect I might be importing some bike rubber soon too.

True, pirelli/michelin/metzler etc are all made overseas and they do not make a diablo/pilot power/m5 especially for aussie conditions.The importers are doing it to themselves overcharging us.

Top Gun Yamaha in Ipswich do cost price tyres. Pilot Road 3 for ZRX were $395 or so a pair. Got around 8k on them now including track day yesterday and heaps to go. They hang on and last. I fit and balance my own tyres though by hand.

Alderton M/c repairs in Smithfield don't sell tyres so you will not be "taking money from Him" He charged me $40 to fit tyres. That was with me removing the wheels from the bike.
