Well I can honestly say that this blogger is a twat. Just because I can see you and some are making an assumption that the car driver didn't see the rider and one point which we don't know as fact.

However if you ride bikes, guess what, as you approach others from a distance unless you 'appear" to get bigger then you don't get closer, I think this is called the linear effect. In short as you don't appear to get bigger then obviously you aren't getting closer. On a motorcycle this is a real problem and only overcome by moving in the lane.

Some people should put emotion away and shut the f...up

Before anyone else pulls a hammie from reacting to this story with a massive knee-jerk - have a read of the *edit* ( or perhaps more accurately termed a *disclaimer* from the author of the story on that blog....
blog editor realising that the circumstances of the accident may not be as cut and dried as he initially assumed wrote:....
EDIT: I have had it pointed out to me that the amount of force required to tip that Honda CRV is not consistent with the bike travelling at the speed limit. Extrapolating that, it appears I am overly harsh in my assessment of Inspector Tynan's comments. We know that it is difficult to estimate the speed of an oncoming motorcycle, especially at night. We riders don't help ourselves if our speed is above the marked speed. While drivers need to know a gap is safe before pulling out, not assume it is safe, riders too need to take responsibility for themselves. I'll reserve any further comments until the coroner's report reveals the estimated speed of the incident....
fucking hallo ??? Maybe it might have dawned on this knob jockey that before he sinks the slipper into everyone else *except* the poor dead bastard - maybe just maybe there could have been contributory negligience. Maybe even a shitload!

Wish I seen this before postng, when I said twat, maybe I should have said complete ignorant twat. Seriously, just because the media jump on a band wagon and ignore "facts" doesn't mean this blogger should do the same. The motorcycle council for once should wait and use wisdom rather then impatience and review the circumstances before putting their 2c in.

Gosling I don't like this trend, I am agreeing with you lately :kuda:

Gos...my 'outrage' at the reporting of this is that the cop attacks speeding bikers even though he didn't say that this "poor dead bastard" was suspected of speeding and appeared to lay no blame at the driver. It could be that he did make some comments that were edited so maybe my outrage should be at the TV station.

Reading the blog there is a comment from the father of a witness that says:

"AnonymousMay 16, 2012 3:45 PM

My son was driving a car following the motorcycle in the accident you mentioned. The motorcycle was travelling at the speed of the traffic, the speed limit.

The car span around and rolled over with most of the motorcycle energy and the riders energy transfered directly to the vehicle which was hit in the rear door and rolled due to its high center of gravity.

My son listed his name etc with the police, they should interview him before implying speed caused the accident."

I know Im going to get shot down here, but I just watched the video and yeah, sure, the cop didn't mention the fact that the car driver was in the wrong, however, I don't beleive he was unduly harsh to motorcyclists. Anyway, unless the rules are different down in mexico, the fact that the driver was undertaking an illegal activitiy that resulted in a death, he/she will face a mandatory gaol sentence - not that that will help the dead bloke.

You just have to look where the bike inpacted into the car to see ,if he was speeding i think the impact would be a lot worse than that,i think the people in the car"darted out" at the worst time.

when a speeding biker hits a car and wipes himself out - the coppers *never* blame the driver mate. This is not new.....

But if this biker was not speeding - and he may not have been, we don't know the circumstances at all - then the driver who did an illegal U-turn is likely to find themselves in front of a magistrate at some point. Negligent driving occassioning death ? Who is to say what the charge will be. The investigation into the prang will determine all this......

I've read this thread a couple of times and pondered whether to comment or not.

Poor bloke paid the greatest price of all, RIP mate,

Whether he was speeding or not, we don't know as yet, that to be determined. The dickhead cop doesn't know it either, but that doesn't stop him from making an assumption based on his past experiences.

the facts at this stage are:

1) a motorcyclist is dead
2) the ppl in the car made an illegal U turn

so, what madkaw was basically saying is that based on the facts available to us , why was the cop's message laying all the blame on the biker?

Once again, at a risk of sounding like a broken record, it's NOT speeding that kills, it's the wrong attitude on our roads that does. :kuda:

Just a thought maybe if there was something the rider may have done to avoid the incident then if the answer is yes it is the riders fault, we are all very quick to blame someone else
Does it matter that the driver was an idiot doing unsafe u turn?
How can we avoid it happening to us???

Yes it does matter in case you forgot, "someone died"
but I do agree with the latter statement.
