The cop doing the interview is part of the problem!
Not part of the solution as they would have others believe.
Doesn't help the dead guy though. RIP.

geez, im going to have to watch this video with the amount of cop bashing going on here! These blokes see crashes every day and probably have a bit more experience in analysing what has happenned then anyone on this forum (including me). All this doesnt change the fact that the poor buggers dead, but I reckon even in an 80 zone it would take a bit of impact to tip a CRV, especially when you consider the height of the motorcycle and rider at the time of impact (unless he was actually in the air).

Regarding the turn creating lean which would assist in tipping the car, this would only be the case if the car commenced the turn in the same direction that the motorcycle was travelling, otherwise the turn would actually be making in more difficult for the rider to flip the car.

Anyway, I guess we are all experts in some way, I just dont think it's fair to throw so much crap at the cops all the time when in many (not all) cases, excessive speed by a motorcyclist may be a contributing factor - and Im not saying the car driver is blameless, especially in this case.

I am so over the bullshit that goes on down here and the next time a smart ass copper gives me his thoughts he had better be ready to answer some of my questions. It wasnt that long ago that a copper did a u turn over double lines and killed the rider and got nothing. Not in pursuit or anything just decieded to chuck a u turn.
Hadnt she forgotten cupcakes or something.......

IMO just another "blame the bike rider without actually looking at the facts" episode

the police stayed quiet on the fact that the rules of the road were broken , just garbage about motorcyclist to slow down .this should be a clear message to vic police that drivers do as they please .How about they put sum of the revenue they make each year off people that do 2klm over the speed limit and have adds to teach people about about the road rules .

What baffles me is how people can not see a headlight at night time :?
And we are talking a modern bike gone are the days of the dim headlights.

that is the only sensible comment on this thread.

I would like to see the results of the crash investigation first before making *any* assumptions about who was at fault here. Reality is that some poor bastard is dead and nobody here has any fucking idea *at all* about the speed of either vehicle or where the fault lies.

Ive seen a few ;) but also know not to comment to the media or publically except for the basic facts. Never assume anything unless said person wants to be made to look like an idiot from an editor!

RIP to the fello rider,a bike that weighs around 190kg +rider (as a guess)around 80kg doing 110kph will lay a top heavy car on its side,it comes down to mass x speed.WTF were they doing chucking a U turn on a highway?there are a LOT of old people that should NOT be driving.
life starts at 200 kph!

Without knowing how fast he was travelling it is hard to say whom is at fault. Some Sydney siders may remember the old couple that were killed out St Marys way when they turned in front of two drag racing cars. Now technically the old couple did turn in front of the cars, however due to the speed of the cars it was considered not to have an impact on the result.

Either way who is at fault there are no winners, a man is dead, a couple are in hospital, two families destroyed

thanks for the link mate.

Before anyone else pulls a hammie from reacting to this story with a massive knee-jerk - have a read of the *edit* ( or perhaps more accurately termed a *disclaimer* from the author of the story on that blog....
blog editor realising that the circumstances of the accident may not be as cut and dried as he initially assumed wrote:....
EDIT: I have had it pointed out to me that the amount of force required to tip that Honda CRV is not consistent with the bike travelling at the speed limit. Extrapolating that, it appears I am overly harsh in my assessment of Inspector Tynan's comments. We know that it is difficult to estimate the speed of an oncoming motorcycle, especially at night. We riders don't help ourselves if our speed is above the marked speed. While drivers need to know a gap is safe before pulling out, not assume it is safe, riders too need to take responsibility for themselves. I'll reserve any further comments until the coroner's report reveals the estimated speed of the incident....
fucking hallo ??? Maybe it might have dawned on this knob jockey that before he sinks the slipper into everyone else *except* the poor dead bastard - maybe just maybe there could have been contributory negligience. Maybe even a shitload!
