Plugs fouling on Rex

Post by billwest »

Farkit! Oil in the plug wells for #2 and #3 cylinders. Bike won't run properly, oil seeped past the plug threads.

I took the lid off, and it seems I will need a new gasket set.
All this a few months after I had the local Kawi shop do my shims. Seals didn't get replaced.

Yep mine has the same problem. Sealed up with goo until next valve adjust- got the new gaskets. Pity it is a radiator hose out job. :(

Seals are on order. If they're not too far away (eg Japan) it should be back up and running on the weekend.

And, I just had the radiator hose off, when I installed the Tealdo radiator, which is a very nice unit btw.

Actually, getting the parts from Kwik (ZRXOA), for a lot cheaper than local dealer prices.

Are you sure that the dealer replaced the rubber gaskets properly? Sometimes they will fail to seat the gasket around the plug holes properly, leading to oil leakage. It might be worth pulling off the rocker cover to check it. Those gaskets rarely fail from what I experienced when working for a Kawasaki dealer.

Same thing happened with my Rex. Gasket kit fixed it.

Nope, dealer didn't replace them. I can tell, by the blue silastic (still on there) that I put on them some time ago......
New kit should fix it.

All good again.
Took a little while to get the gasket kit from Kwick, but worth it, about 2/3 the price of a local kit.

At first it wouldn't run right, still missing on one cylinder. I then replaced all my (iridium) plugs with an old set of standard plugs I had justin. Now runs beautiful. I guess the iridiums really fouled up.

Bill.
