To rego or not?

Post by Nelso »

Is the extra money for rego on a dirt bike worth it? Since Leanne and I need to get two dirt bikes, that's two more regos on top of the four we already pay for. What places are we likely to ride that we need rego for?

If we go to a bike park, we don't need it. Private property, we don't need it. National Parks don't allow riding as far as I'm aware, so it's only State Forests and public roads that it's needed.

So what are people's thoughts? Are we likely to ride places where you need rego or are we better off saving our money and getting MX bikes?

Better of asking what private parks are there for you to ride without rego???

I bet you'll be surprised that there is not many.

But yes I understand that with all the extras on top for 2 more bikes it is a big question.

I just find I easier with rego and well worth the money. I have also been on the receiving end of a non rego dirtbike fine or at least my friend was on my yz250. It in itself would have paid for both your rego's and insurance for the year

Dirt bike rego is cheaper Rob especially if they are smaller cc's looks like I might be downsizing as the 511 will stay a motard & spare dirty, 250 dirtys are a plenty ;)

Buy a dirty with some rego like 6+ months on it, by the time that runs out you probably would have traded up ;)

In SA I reg mine for 3 months at a time when I need to, dont know about NSW

OK. Looks like it's a unanimous vote for rego. That's the sort of confirmation I was after. Thanks guys. :kuda:

Mate I luv my DRZ (yellow KLX400) although I only have vague memories from long ago of an old DT175 Yammy to compare against . :kuda:

yer my drz400 will do :P :P haha
but seriously its a great starter in the dirt, easy to ride, maintenance is easy and dont have to so a whole lot compared to other bikes.
cheap as to run and maintain
massive aftermarket
great platform bike to get into dirt riding, without the whole maintenance side and if u get the bug then upgrade and they hold their value quite well.

but as russ said you will outgrow it, they dont do anything perfect, or get the the fastest, but are capable in the right hands.
