Re: Come from the shadows - the Shadowfax restoration.
oh man.......I just got home after some daddy duties......FMD the bodywork is here with the striping and number boards all finished !!!
It looks really REALLY good, even just sitting on the kitchen table
Can't wait to have all this on the bike tomorrow. Only 1 last *big* job, and that is fabricating an extension to the main fairing mount at the front, plus a couple of smaller ones on each side. The front of the seat needs a fixing point......apart from that......well I expect to hear this bike running tomorrow.
Which will be good, as it is scheduled for some tyre-scrubbing at Wakefield Park on Tuesday !
Will bung up some more pictures tomorrow once all the body work is fitted up and the zorst & brakes are done.
*then* - it will be a motorbike that lives and breathes.....

Shadowfax lives & breathes !!
About 5.30 this arvo, after a couple of false starts and some chain link issues
- the old girl fired up !
Sounds great - I have used the Kerker baffle from the Pearl as an interim measure - mainly because it was the only tail-pipe in the 4th that fitted snugly on a Kerker system ......funny that......
Pictures to come. Fairing mounts are almost complete, will knock over the smaller ones tonight.
Did a couple of laps up and down the street - the riding position is really snug, you are pretty much tucked in and over the tank. Feels great even on this short stint - can't wait to give it a good strop around Wakefield !!!
I danced a jig - and big thanks to PC who dropped over this arvo to help out with the bump-starting and getting the fairing mounts all lined up - cheers buddy

OK here are the photos from this arvo - feast your eyes !! (but ingnore the fuel spill underneath - bloody #1 float is sticking !!
)

and appropriately - as the shadows lengthened in middle earth..........the mighty steed became fully-clothed !!

lots of little jobs to finish - need to fit the proper rear drum hub tomorrow so that we have an operating rear brake.......install some seat foam......fit a TZ tacho......thats about it from me. Allan still has to come over and line up the fairing pin-striping now that the fairing is mounted up properly......those blue tape lines are close but will need a bit of tweaking. This should all be done by Wed. this week. Then - its out with the Mr Sheen and lots of elbow grease....
This bike will be at Eastern Creek on Sat/Sun this weekend at the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed. at this point I am not sure if we will be getting to do some demo laps on the bike or not, but hopefully we can work something out with the Clerk of the Course. Really looking forward to getting some laps in around the Creek if at all possible......
cheers punters - its been a long weekend on the tools.

Absolutely fantastic job Gos...
Its a credit to both you and Phil for the effort that's gone toward putting this beast back together and getting it up and rolling once more...

All we need now is a sound bite and or a bit of video of it running on the track....

Re: Come from the shadows - the Shadowfax restoration.
well what a day.....got some track time in - not as much as I would have liked though - the old slick on the rear is pretty hard......it spun on the rim and ripped the valve stem out !
when I went to roll out on the dummy grid with some of the seasoned punters from Team Traffic - the bloody rear tyre was flat !!
absolutely spewing, I had mentioned to Hal that we should have fitted the small self-tapping screws into the rim - it already has the holes drilled around the perimeter - but no screws were fitted.......
I did manage to get about 20 minutes in before lunch which was great - and some of it has been captured on video from one of the bikes ( lucky not to be footage used in court
) - but that was it for the day.
Towards the end of the session, I started to get pretty comfortable on the old girl - not to the point of dragging a knee though - this bike locks you into place pretty well
- no jumping around like a monkey......but I did manage to drag the exhaust system on the l/h side though
mainly through lack of ground clearance than cornering ability
After riding Shadowfax for a decent strop - I can see how it was designed as an endurance racer. It would be really comfortable to just lock yourself into position and rattle off lap after lap at the same pace for ages - without tiring yourself out by jumping all over the place like a spaz.
You could sprint-race on this bike on certain tracks though - EC and the Island would be ideal.
Pictures on the way ....
