Bloody kangaroos

Not me this time. Came across the aftermath out riding this morning. Cars stopped to block half the road, bits of fairing everywhere, battered bike beside the road, some poor bugger stretched out on the road. We were waved through so stopping and helping wasn't an option. Turns out he hit a kangaroo at 9-30 am on a moderately busy country road. Had a subdued ride after seeing that.

I did an early one with Sunshine and a mate of his this morning and had a similar encounter. Crested a hill on a LOOOOOOOONG straight. Haven't ridden much of late, so thankfully was being John D. Citizen, as when I crested the hill there was a black Wallaby sitting in the middle of my lane pretty much right in front of me. I jumped on the picks and pulled it up about 5 metres from it. It just sat there till I honked the horn???? Must have been recovering after a big night or has joined the Koalas in some Gum leaves. When I hit the horn, it slowly turned it's head, looked at me and hopped off as though it didn't have a care in the world?? Strange it was.

The outcome is that the rider survived the accident. The rider was from Melbourne Sportsbike Riders (but not during a club ride), the bike was a CBR1000 and below is the text he sent to the Club Secretary this morning:
Still in Alfred. Bike split in two, broken right ankle, tiny
cracks in lower spine and hip but they said they should be okay. Drugs helping heaps. May
get out today. Thanks for checking. Can't wait to come out with you all, probably 2-3
months. Will be in touch.

Bloody dangerous little buggers. I nearly got copped by one a couple of weeks back. Launched out of the scrub on my left hand side as I was right in the middle of a left hander and I just waited for the impact but it never happened. More arse than class on my part but there was absolutely nothing I could've done to avoid the bugger. I saw him right next to me as I flashed past but must've missed him by a bee's dick.

On the "every cloud has a silver lining" count though I buttoned off a bit and about two corners ahead there was a walloper with a radar gun so I guess he saved me a nasty fine.

never hit one with the bike (seen plenty close by though) but have hit 2 while on 4 wheels...

first with a company car on the way to the snow up Mt Buller way past Merrijig
I sorta half missed this one with brakes locked ended up sideswiping it...
smashed the RH indicator broke off the drivers mirror and put dings in every panel on the drivers side

the second time driving a mate's 4WD with bull bar up past Lake Nillahcootie on the way to Benalla.
Didnt get to Benalla as an adult grey made a right mess of it.. The 4WD had a decent bullbar on the front
but that only added to the damage. An 80kg gray hit at 100kmh fucks any vehicle..let alone the bloody mess.
Message...do not hit a 'gray' at 100 kmh head on ( in this case it jumped straight in front and no time to swerve)

Both occurred early morning just as it was getting light and thats the time to beware...

Similar thing... never hit one on a bike. Come close several times, so maybe it will happen soon? But I have hit a few in cars. The last one was only four or so years ago, when I wiped out the front of a 3 series BMW on a BIG roo near Mildura. Luckily, it hit almost dead centre and on the landing, not in mid air, so while it wiped out the bumper bar and grill and all the undertrays and inner gaurds, the mechanicals were all ok, as well as the headlights. So some Ductape got me home.
