New tyre question?
I have seen on you tube vids of people getting new tyre and riding off only to be flipped off as there is wax on the tyre.
I'm getting new rubber tomorrow.
Question is do I need to rub the tyre with sand paper or something to get the wax off?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Spray and wipe with brake cleaner..or just take it easy for the first 50 ks leaning a little further every corner..

Re: New tyre question?
I read some where a while back that you dont have to scrub tires in these days cause they dont use the same coating as they used to, but i wouldnt trust it.. Ive heard of the sandpaper technique, brake cleaner, wax and grease remover and a couple other ones..
Personally I just give the shoulders a light rub with sandpaper and leave the center to wear off with normal riding for around 50-80 kms

Just be careful for a while. If your tyre are a bit squared off you'll also be tipping in quicker.

Re: New tyre question?
The tyre place should hit it with a bit of tyre buffer. So long as you don't crack the throttle hard it'll be fine. You just need to take it easy for the first 50k's or so.
The small amount you can do with a bit of sandpaper when you pick it up won't make a diff

I did the sand paper scrub at home while on the stand.. I wouldn't bother doing it straight after getting the tire fitted at the workshop, would look a little oddmarksesh wrote:Cheers ill pack the sandpaper light scrub just to be sure. Thanks heaps

Re: New tyre question?
I used prep sol (thanks to the people hear) and worked great but as what was said above the technolige of tyres these days they don't have to be coated with wax like the early days.

Re: New tyre question?
I rub over the tyre with prepsol then a light rub with sand paper . Then go for a ride on a grave road and ride in the soft stuff. this no recommended if you are not used to grave roads

If you're worried just rub them down with Prepsol.

Re: New tyre question?
the best way to scrub a tyre in is to get heat in it - don't give it the berries as you peel out of the tyre shop, this is guaranteed to see you bin it. Just ride down the street like normal - then use the brakes a few times to work the tyre. Once you have ridden around 1/2 a dozen corners without trying to scrape the pegs and put a bit of heat into the tyres - the release compound will be gone.
This method has worked fine for me for 30+ years, I have never used sandpaper or prepsol or anything else.

Tyres have alot more grip from new than you give them credit for.

As Gos stated above just ride the bike easy for a bit.
Leave the sandpaper for the ducati cafe latte poofs that sandpaper their chicken strips to look cool at the local cafe.
