I saw the whole thing. The TV was on in the background when I was home for the morning and when I heard them talking about the good Corporal, I stuck my head into the lounge and watched. In my opinion, the clips that have been doing the rounds were not taken out of context in the slightest. Those two clowns made comments that were of particularly poor taste. Sure they tried to pass them off as jokes, but aren't jokes meant to be funny?? I expected more of Negus. He should have pulled that useless cow up on her comment.

I don't watch the show but I am believe the circle it is meant to a light hearted look at the life and the goings on

Yes he is a hero for what he did, but does that put him above stupid or funny comments from others who didn't win the VC? I have two friends both who are/have served in Afghanistan, one is a sniper who was injured sometime ago but is back over there. Well aren't we all media band wagon jumpers. I posted in the original thread about this Jill (who is a twat btw, but for many other reasons). If you look at what she wrote, I am talking the whole article not the edited text that most read, you will find what she was suggesting is not wrong, sure the way she wrote was inflammatory. What Jill was suggesting that as motor sport enthusiasts, we want to see the best dancing with death, if that wasn't the case local club racing would be on tv. It isn't as we know that as good as the club racers are they aren't that last .1% who won't roll out of the throttle, who won't give up, they want to win and are prepared to risk it all in the pursuit.

No one wants to see someone die (well most people) however the highlight reels are always full of the crashes and humans do gravitate to a crash. Fact is if we want them to be bashing handle bars at 300km/h, sliding the bike, taking it the edge, this has a consequence and that is sometimes the best get it wrong and die. There is no shame in that, its just the way it is, it is what makes it exciting. Opinions are meant to challenge your thinking, it is okay to read such things with an open mind

You have to love the media

A very balanced point of view NT. I have read and watched the unedited versions of both. Jill just worded it the way she thought would gain the most traction. She misjudged the reaction that most would have being accused of being gore mongers. I agree, we don't go to watch death, but we pay to watch them balance it on the knife edge. However, it is not to see a possible death, it is to admire and be in awe of the aliens abilities.

As for Negus and Co, as much as I am very proud of what this soldier represents, the sacrifices he has made for us and the potential horrors he has seen and endured, I do not agree that he be held in such esteem that the piss cannot be taken out of him. FFS, he is a rock lobster (Body full of meat and a head full of shit) in that shot in the gym. Of course he is gunna get the piss taken out of him. I have a mate who works out. He cops it off us all the time about being a dumb meathead. He's not. He's actually intelligent and has a great career, as well as being a fantastic father. But, it doesn't , mean he is above having the piss taken out of him.

The most likely reason he handled the incident and the apology so well in the media, is he probably thought it was half a laugh himself! I know when I get the piss taken for being a skinny prick, I laugh. I am sure he had half a chuckle too. After all, if he were really pissed off, he could have snapped them like a twig without anyone ever knowing!
