Hi Brian, I have found out my Stator is under warrenty from the place I got it (US of A!!!!), but that may take some time. For the sake of $100 can I grab your stator at the Island?

Cheers

mercho wrote:Hey Guys, Sorry to revive an old thread, but i think I am having the same issue. Am starting to get the "whistle" from the stator area at 2K revs.

Just wondering where you guys sourced your new stators from, I don't mind doing it myself, but have only found the ones on ebay...
I've still got my OEM part available, mentioned in the earlier post.

Cheers,
Brian

Had the same issue once upon a time and got a stator from http://regulatorrectifier.com. Way cheaper than OEM.
It was rewound from an old core though, but it did the job just fine.

Sorry to bring up an old thread....but......25000kms and same, fried stator.

Anyone that says this is not a common problem with grumby's is lying, based on my research of the interwibble.

It will be interesting to see the answer to the question just posed to Mr K aus..

Not fuggin happy Jan....

Traffic and stop start or stationary stuff can fry them pretty quickly. They tend to last a little longer if you don't commute on them much. But it's no different with some other brands/models. A mate who has had a string of blades, keeps a new stator under the seat when the bike get's close to 40k. A lot fail close to that. I'd try and find one from another model that fits and works. Might last longer???

As predicted, the Mr K option was less than useful ( tits on a bull, springs to mind )

Don't think Mr. K would be of any use, their reply was to just palm it off to the dealers...FFS what would Peter Stevens know about anything ( except maybe, ripping off customers )

Gone the http://regulatorrectifier.com. route..should arrive tomorrow...good price, fast service...even the postage charge was more reasonable than usual coming out of USA.

another Gumby stator bites the dust early

so should I change the regulator at the same time or just take my chances?

Also does anyone know what it may have done to the battery as I just put a new one in on Friday :x

My gumby is on the bench this week, I will check it as well, if it looks like this I will send it to SMR down in Melbourne & get it rewound anyway..... best in the business!
