Out for 2-3 months- Minor Accident

I've had a bunch of injuries through the years, (i'm 66 years old) including spinal trauma, and the docs have always told me I would be less than 100%. Fortunately I never believed the over cautious bastards. Docs always will tell you your never going to be 100%. Thats their job. I however always proved them wrong. Just exercize, and all will be well. Sometimes it's not easy to recover, but the pain and effort are worth it. NO PAIN NO GAIN.
And yes Strika all my wrecks were my fault, but if I don't push the envelope there is no point in riding. Cheers to you all. Have a Jim or 25.

years ago, i saw a stick that went from one side of the road to the other, and i rode over it.

it wasnt a stick

the "stick" reared up to have a go at me, got tangled in the swingarm and stayed there until it stopped; andwhen i stopped, i dropped the bike and ran away. it was mightily pissed, bit the rear tyre and slithered away into the bush.

so beware of those 'sticks'

Stay off the throttle over 'those" sticks. If possible, lock the rear as you go over it. It stops the next rider copping a pissed of stick! Can't tell you how many times i've seen a "moving stick" fly past my helmet because the tool in front kept the gas on.

TyM2Go, how are the injuries coming along? Maybe when you are feeling a little better, you might ask Phil nicely to take you for a run through the Nasho on the back of the Rex. I'm pretty sure you'd learn a few things. One of which would be what it feels like to soil yourself on a bike.

Or ask Wattie to pillion you through "Wattieland" I'm pretty sure that would open up your eyes too!

I ran over some of our placid Tassie sticks the other day. While the bike was skipping sideways I wasn't thinking, "OMG! I'm gunna crash." or trying to stand it up or brake or panic or anything remotely like that ....


I thought about a naked guy on a couch with a cushion in his lap losing control and ending upside down in front of the tv. Pissed myself all the way home.

Won't learn much going pillion except how to tense up. Never learnt anything by trying to keep up with faster riders, make too many mistakes trying to keep with them.

If I was going to learn from anyone it would be someone slower and learn from what they are doing wrong, turning into early, not smooth on the throttle. Learn more from others mistakes then from someone who does everything right.

If you really want to learn, do a couple of courses. One that I found really breaks down the basics of riding is CSS (Superbike school). They simplify riding a bike and how to get it to turn. When I did it I had been riding for awhile had been given every tip from all the "fastest" riders out there. Yes they were quicker than me, but they had no idea about how to explain what they were doing so just gave the most misleading and ultimately bullshit advice. CSS completely changed the way I approached riding and took 15 seconds off a lap at EC. It isn't cheap but then life lessons like yours aren't either.

Naked twin, I disagree. He should learn heaps pillioning with an experienced rider. It's a great way to learn lots of those things you spoke about in your post. A pillion ride on the back of an FZR1000B in the early 90's taught me a hell of a lot! I'd recommend it to most new riders as a great way to take on board some smooth and safe bike control. Providing of course, that the riders are of the calibre of the likes of those I have mentioned.

Don't ever want to ride pillion with me. The only caliber I have is a 44 mag Smith and Wesson.

I think it would be better said he "could" learn heaps if the person who is riding actually knows why they are quick and is able to describe/ break down what they are doing. If you don't know how you got there, then you sure as shit can''t show others the way
