Frame checking???
Frame checking???
Is there anywhere in Sydney I can have my frame checked to see if it's straight?
If not does anyone know of a food method to check yourself?

Re: Frame checking???
Glen, with old age your getting your chicken nuggets mixed up with your Fillets of fish. It's 2.5 Fillet's to a Big mac and so forth isn't it?
Anways, you can check it yourself, but you would need to weld up some sort of jig to put it in and measure from. If your handy with a welder and understand geometry it isn't that hard. But if you're like me, you'll take it to Laurie

Re: Frame checking???
If u run a straight edge from the rear wheel to the front axle and measure the distance either side of the front axle it will give you a rough indication. if ur two or three mm dif ok but anymore id be worried. the best way to tell is to ride her. But i definately agree that Aldertons is the go they do great work...

Frame checking???
Laurie and his son are the go for a confident and professional answer, plus if it isn't then you've got the bike in the right hands to be straightened.
If it's all still together I have witnessed the black art of watching the bike being ridden down a straight line. It's definitely not accurate to the nth degree and no one will ever guarantee it being accurate, but if you're interested pm me and I'll point you in the right direction.

Re: Frame checking???
That will only true the wheels. Frame and swingarm need to be measured without the wheels in to get a true measurement. Once the frame and swingarm are straight, that's a great way to make sure your wheels are in alignment, as believe it or not, the markers on the swingarm can be up to a few mm's out! I think it is +3 or +4mm on my racebike swingarm from memory. Anyways, I have it written in marker on the top of the swingarm so I can't forget!Jon13 wrote:If u run a straight edge from the rear wheel to the front axle and measure the distance either side of the front axle it will give you a rough indication. if ur two or three mm dif ok but anymore id be worried. the best way to tell is to ride her. Same thing can be done with string. Yep good old fashioned normal string. I bet "The Goodies" never thought of that use!! ( wonder who will link that?)
Wrap some string around the wheel. Drag it back. Measure and adjust rear wheel till straight. The idea being the string should be equal each side. Wrap string from back to front at the rear, or front to back at the front. That way, the wheel will give you the straight string line of where it is pointing.
Fuck, that was confusing....get someone else to explain it more simple terms, even I lost myself in that

Hopefully just another few hundred bucks to get it running then decided which way to go: track or road?!?
