Re: Out for 2-3 months- Minor Accident
That's unfortunate fitzy but somewhat inevitable when you're learning. Good thing is you come out OK and as Marty is saying learn from it.
Please reread Martys posts though as he's dead spot on. I know the part of the old road where you probably crashed. I'm tipping it was the downhill section on the second part on the way to the slab. Me and Hoff have done it the last couple of weeks early in the morning when it's cold and greasy. Granted there are leaves and shit all over it and therefore you need to take some caution but trust us, a stick (unless it's a really big one) won't bring you down if you keep your nerve, keep on the gas and keep leaning. You'll slide, move, regather and in all that if you don't shit yourself and grab a fistful of brakes you'll come out the other side.
Analyse what happened and get it straight in your head. No matter what happens it is always your fault, just accept that and learn from it and you'll be fine.
Hurry up and get better and get back on the bike. Good luck with it.

Re: Out for 2-3 months- Minor Accident
Fitzy I'm no expert, however what strika is referring to is that your survival reactions (SR's) caused your crash, the SR's in your case is target fixation (ie branch, gravel, oil on the road etc) and jumping on the brakes. Its these natural survival reaction that inexperienced riders on a bike should unlearn & this is achieved via experience and or schooling; if you don't it will lead to further injury.
Whilst your in convalescence check out Twist of the wrist of volume II, available in both a book and video. The book is better as there is a lot more concepts covered including SR's which I mentioned above, and other things like throttle control (the most important), counter steering, use of brakes, gearing, balance of the bike & selecting correct lines through corners.
Ive read the book twice and no doubt I will keep re-reading it to unlearn wrong techniques.

Remember opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one. That does not mean you should discount any advice, it just means evaluate it and apply what pertains to you. Everybody makes some good points, (except me). Get well soon, and remember you are in charge of yourself, do what you want to do not some other arseholes suggestion. cheers!

Re: Out for 2-3 months- Minor Accident
Good on you for posting up your accident that took nuts. After it’s all said and done glad you've realised the benefit of gear. Your lessons also go along way to showing others how to preserve themselves.
Hope your back in the saddle soon.
There is a section on the DVD that shows how to ride corners in wet/greasy conditions. Well worth a look and explains with visuals what Strika is explaining. Confidence in yourself is one thing, Confidence and nerve holding your line in less than ideal conditions is something else.blackster wrote:Whilst your in convalescence check out Twist of the wrist of volume II, available in both a book and video.

Glad to hear you came away relatively ok Fitzy. Could have been a lot worse. Heal up quick and get back on the road.

As you have no insurance, see if you can enlist the help of some of the more knowledgeable members in Sydders to help with the rebuild. They will know where to get stuff cheap and help you pull it apart and put it back together. It will save you literally thousands compared with having a shop do it. I am sure there will be some members happy to assist in some way. I know the Melbourne crew certainly rally around when a tip over happens.

Re: Out for 2-3 months- Minor Accident
Ok, I will put my hand up as firey helped me and karma tells me I should pay it forward. I'm not as knowledgeable as some of the other guys here; but I've stripped all the aesthetics and some mechanical stuff off a 250R apart and put back together again successfully.
Its a lot easier to work on compared to a zx6r. If your wondering fitzy why i stripped a 250R it was when I was modify it and in retrospect it was a waste of money; I have the workshop manual for the 250R, as for referencing correct part numbers for your year model; take a look @ http://www.kawasakipartshouse.com/ and use the index.
For parts if you choose to go through a dealer I suggest you look at one of the forum sponsors like flywheels, they give 10% off parts. Other choices are ebay or WET4Uracing who is local, he used to be on this site; but is no longer (dont know the reason why) he seems to stock lots of stuff for the 250R.
Anyway, I can spare few hours on a weekend; when your arm is up to holding a spanner I can lend a hand.

Good work Blackster. If you've pulled one apart before, that will help him out immensely.
