Nice! I would still say if you don't have a phone on the line where the modem is take the filter away, net might go faster 8-)

Jenny,

last time this happened, some scumbag using our shared home computer had introduced a trojan that basically removed parts of the IE programs whenever it was opened. :x

Go to Malwarebytes & download the free version, and run a full scan. Then update your security system & again run a full scan.
Also recommend CCleaner & a defragging.

If that doesnt help I have someone who can fix if required.

+1 for Malware Bytes. Probably the best spyware program going around at the moment.

I also use avast anti virus (it's free). Run them both and see what it tells you it finds.

I'd also clear up some space on your hard drive (you did mention it could be full?). This WILL impact the speed at which your PC runs at.

I'd also recommend installing FIrefox or Chrome as a browser. Not only are they faster than IE, but have less security issues.

Even if it's not some sort of Malware, IE clogs itself up pretty good,
Go to "Internet Options"
"Advanced Tab"
and click the "Reset Internet Explorer settings".
Fixes most slow loading page problems with IE :D

You could also try Spybot Search and Destroy, and Ad-Aware. I run them both along with antivirus and never have a prob. After you've scanned your system, stop using IE (possibly THE worst browser around) and download Firefox. You can get a handy addon for Firefox called Ad Block Plus, it blocks just about ALL advertising on the interweb, including places like facesook. It will help speed up your connection by not having to dl ads and popups. Oh, and it's not available for IE.

What operating system do you have??? If it is windows, try going in to internet options and deleting all the temporary files. If you have windows, download microsoft security essentials, it's free, then run a scan. You can also download microsofts malicious software removal tool. Disable addons and require cookies to be OKed by you. Go into internet options and use in private filtering. Your modem is 192.168.0.1, probably. Go into that and check all your settings. Do a disk cleanup then a defrag. Good luck. Oh and have a Jim.

...and don't run these virus and malware programs simultaniously, your hard drive will be having an internal epileptic fit trying to keep up.
Then you may have a whole new set of problems, like file recovery because the hard drive dies a terrible death! ;)

Thanks MM, I've downloaded malwarebytes and run a full scan, if found a few threats. I've deleted all those and run a full scan again, also have avast installed. I've also done disk cleanups and deleted my history, cookies etc.

My C drive is about 53% full, I have windows XP. I use firefox and at the moment I can't even open up google, just flashes 'connnecting' for about 5 mins then says either terminated connection or unable to find website. I may need to get someone to look at it.

I appreciate all your help :)

Have you connected it by cable yet? Does it connect to wifi still? Is it set to obtain IP automatically or have a set ip from the modem?

Haven't tried the cable yet but I can get WiFi automatically connected when I sign on and the laptops have no trouble getting Internet through the WiFi.

MM, whereabouts is your friend ? I'd like to get someone to have a quick look, thanks.
