Purchasing parts from overseas

Post by shadowzx9 »

Well,

You guys know how I bought Richos 9 a few weeks back,

Ive been surfing parts sites, mostly found from here for the bits im going to need

Last night, found this on ebay, which I thought was a reasonable price

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ZX9R-fairing ... 2a18be2468

OEM Parts FTW say I, they just fit better, lets not argue that point

So at this point I decided to start pricing up everything Id like to get as an OEM part, mainly from http://www.kawasakipartshouse.com which is an online store of a US Retailer

Now, Id expect a bit of play here given the state of the AUD V USD at the moment, but come on!.

New belly pan 55028-1393-E4 http://www.kawasakipartshouse.com $180.57
Belly Pan Foam - RHS 39156-1608 http://www.kawasakipartshouse.com $14.95
Belly Pan Foam - LHS 39156-1607 http://www.kawasakipartshouse.com $15.97

Now, I cant purchase more than $1000 worth of parts in 1 hit anyway, not unless I dont mind not eating for a couple of weeks out of the month (maybe not such a bad idea, my own personal weight loss program? parts for pounds!), so therefore im clear of Customs Duty and GST.

Worst part is, these are the same parts numbers listed in the ad :(

I did want to try and source as much of this as possible locally, but not if im going to be paying $330 (maybe, theres no buy it now option for that part) for something I can get for $211.49 offshore and its the exact same product.

Powersports will take another 5 bucks off that total. I got most of my OEM stuff from them. Right now I need a new head gasket. Their price is $64.42 + shipping. I need it immediately so I had to get it from Kawasaki Aus at $105.
They still don't 'get' why we are buying overseas. The guy at the counter is concerned - naturally - with protecting Australian jobs, but can't see that the customer is after the best price. I'll support my local business, but be buggered if I'll subsidise him.
