Importing parts from USA

Hey all,

Just wondering on people's different experiences good or bad and in particular regarding motomummy.

A bit of background info I ordered some driven clip-ons,sprockets and a few other bits and pieces from motomummy. I ordered in the middle of October. Two weeks later they sent me an email saying that my items had been shipped, I found this strange as when ordered they said they where in stock and when I asked why they took two weeks to ship it was because they didn't have them in stock....... Ok fair enough would have been nice to know though.

Early January I sent an email asking what was happening as I was yet to see anything.
A week later I get an email saying they have been lost somewhere in shipping, but they will ship them again that day. I sent them an email asking what had happened? ie wrong address etc?
I didn't receive anything back for five days so I sent another email, stating it would be nice to receive a reply and I'm starting to wonder what's going on considering they have had my money since October and I'm not getting much communication. Especially considering this is the first time I have used them, I questioned wether I should be contacting PayPal as I was starting to get concerned.

I get an email 10 hours later(what a quick response considering their track record with me)

Basically said "we received the parts today and where going to ship them( they already told me they were reshipped 5 days ago) but considering your last email we will save you contacting PayPal and we will refund your money. It takes 23 days to do a investigation to the last shipment"

What the....... I just wanted to be kept in the loop...... Now 2 months down the track I have to start over again with someone else!!!!

Anyone got a favourite that they can recommend and also a brand of clip ons/ sprockets they like??

Bugger. Ive been really happy with motomummy. Not sure on other sites but I know a few others will post up soon!

Yeh I was wondering wether a whole heap of circumstances had conspired together to cause this hence I wanted other people's experience with them......

Seems that some businesses have a problem if anything changes.

Before Christmas I ordered a some parts form Babbitts. About a week later they advised that the parts were ready to ship and gave me the cost to send here. No biggie so far but I sent back an email asking to add another part and they replied with the cost and to get back to them if I wanted to add, so I replied yes and that was the last I heard from them.

Sent 3 more emails trying to find out what, if anything, I needed to do to add the other part. Finally rang at 3am this morning and was advised that NO, I couldn't add to the order and that it would be shipped straight away.

GRRRRRR.....

My dealings with Corey from Moto mummy have been sub par; the amount of gripe that guy has spun makes a used car sales man look like a nun in comparison.

For aftermarket parts I use solomotoparts in Cali.

I got my Muzzy from JC Motors in Irvine California and they were really good. Not sure what else they sell though

Its hard not to feel a bit isolated waiting on emails from the OS shops to confirm what you think it is going on, but my dealings with MM have been fine, and they've done a few things above and beyond to help me out, so they are good from my POV, parts actually arrived yest afternoon actually (so I'm biased!). But I can appreciate where you are coming from. I also use STG (sportbiketrackgear), and those guys are super professional, response within 24hrs, and sooner if you respond during their working day (basically overnight for us). I havent used others so cant comment. I do know MM are a pretty big supplier of hard parts in the US market, and I'm only speculating here, but once an order becomes too hard I think the customer may get the boot depending on circumstances, especially international customers; they don't have the time or inclination to straighten it out, its just easier with the resources they have to call it a day once it gets to that stage.

I'm not sure if they do that sort of stuff, but check out rocky mountain. Several have purchased tyres from them with amazing delivery times and brilliant communication.

I've used MotoMummy before and I'll tell you this....
Have them confirm the parts you are after are ACTUALLY in stock before you pay.
I split an order in two to save on taxes,gst etc as the order was well over a grand..
I added a second chain kit to the second order because that order would still be under a grand...I got hit with another shipping fee as the extra chain kit blew the weight of their flat rate shipping offer...Fair enough..If I had known about the weight restrictions with each order.
They told me one engine cover was on back order and would be there in a week....Fine no probs I said so long as I get it by such and such a date..Two or more weeks pass and no confirmation on parts being shipped so I sent email...
Reply, part wont be there until the end of the following month..GGRRRRR..

Said they wouldn't ship the other items until the order was complete.
I ended up cancelling both engine covers just to get the order out the door.
First order made it here in good time..

Second order showed up the day before my track day

but I had already purchased another set of clip ons here cause I wasn't sure the ones I was sweating on that were in the second order would make it in time..
I WILL use them again as prices and shipping fees are quite good but as I said, I would be making sure all the parts required were there and available for immediate shipping or be happy to wait..

I see this as a lesson learnt when ordering OS..

I would prefer to keep my $$$$$ here in Aust and support my local dealerships...but...I did give places here the opportunity to supply the parts but none of them could get close price wise...So what's a bloke spose to do.???

Thanks heaps guys for the response I'm sure there are even more to come, so I'm thinking that if everything is easy and straight forward things are reasonably smooth with them just don't expect any communication. But once there are issues it then becomes a problem....

JC Motors for me too. Ordered a set of Yoshies for my old Firestorm on a Thursday night.... I fitted them to the bike on the Tuesday morning.
