Melbourne Xmas hail storm

Post by 2010zx6r »

Hi guys

Here's a video of a hail storm that hit us in the afternoon in Hillside (western suburbs of Melbourne).
Every car we saw had hail damage including friends and family that were over.
I was kinda lucky as rode there and just received damage to front screen.

Cells that produce hail that big usually produce Tornado's...that would have been a little worse ;)

Melbourne Xmas hail storm

I only managed to catch the end of the storm. Unfortunately you really can't see the thousands and thousands falling when video was pointing to the sky.
I was undecided if I was to drive or ride as weather forecast was grim. Now I am glad I rode as if I drove it would of be hammered.

It may surprise you that Australia has 10% of the World's Tornado's

Wow, makes me glad that when I was deciding to move to Sydney or Melbourne, I chose Sydney. Moved here a couple of years after that big hail storm happened and have only copped one hailstorm with ice only 2/3 the size of that at most. Fortunately i was out driving in the car and was ale to take shelter in the lee of a building that was right next to a main road. I've seen some photos of what was done yesterday and I am not jealous at all.

Replace front screen today. A little disapointed as got it fairly cheap. Now have to pay almost twice as much. Could of been worse. Feel sorry for friends who were there. My sister inlaws sister only bought their car brand new four months ago. And her husbands work car at home not too far away had hail damage also.
Sucks :(
