Biker boys who can't grow up: Motorcycle leathers that let you hit the open road as Batman, a Star Wars stormtrooper and Iron Man

By Graham Smith

It is a dream come true for anyone who has ever pondered riding a motorcycle dressed as a Star Wars stormtrooper or Batman.

Now a company has answered the prayers of comic book fans everywhere with a range of movie costume motorcycle leathers.

Toronto-based UD Replicas make detailed versions of superhero and science-fiction character outfits exactly as they are seen on screen.

Other officially-licensed creations include suits from Iron Man 2, Tron and X-Men's Wolverine.

Dress as Batman in these motorcycle leathers modelled on those worn by Christian Bale in Batman Begins

Company president David Pea claims they offer even more protection than normal leathers.

He said: 'We line all of our goods with CE approved body armour much like many other well respected companies, but where our goods excel is the sheer amount of form-molded leather.

'This technique basically adds a whole other dimension of protection to the wearer... aside from the amazingly cool details obtained, our goods are built like tanks.'

Comic book fan Mr Pea has worked in costume creation and leather garment design for 25 years.

He said: 'The idea for these movie replica motorcycle suits was really an evolving theme from our previous works.

'The notion of our favourite characters developed as fully-functional, wearable motorcycle wear seemed to appeal to me personally... and that's where the concept began.

'The Dark Knight Batman - Movie Replica Motorcycle Suit was our first... and everything just took off from there.'

Decisions: For £750, motorcycle riders can dress as a Star Wars stormtrooper or as Iron Man

Snazzy: The suits are made by Toronto-based UD Replicas and also include the option to look like X-Men's Wolverine and a black Stormtrooper

The suits are mostly handmade, with prototypes taking months to perfect before production can begin. Finished suits can take up to five months to complete and deliver.

Mr Pea said: 'These organic shapes and form-molded details require a lot, a lot of hands on direct work to yield the desired look.

'We use Grade A cowhide and in some cases buffalo hides as detail inserts. Strong, thick... pliable. Leather has to not only look great, but perform as a second skin. We've really taken the notion of forming leather to an extreme that's never been seen before.

'Add to that the use of form-molded Kevlar in both hard and soft shell and you really do end up with something unique, protective and really awesome to look at.'

The quality of the company's work has seen them form licensing partnerships with Lucasfilm, DC, Marvel and Disney to officially bring fan favourites to life.

Full suits costs £750, although individual elements such as jacket and gloves can be bought on their own.
