I've already had to replace a ram air cover, a choke cable, and a radiator hose. The also overtorqued my bloody seat so the bolts inside the frame let go and now spin freely. All so I could get a good price on a before/after dyno. Not bloody worth it.

Sounds definitely like they've pulled or pinched a wire but by pure chance I'm already booked into AllFixed for something completely unrelated tomorrow. Hopefully he's got some spare time to track it down for me if I leave it with him for a few days.

If it wasn't so damn inconvenient to get the before/after dyno I would've. I do most things myself as long as it doesn't require special tools. Guess I figured if a mug like me can do it, then a pro shop that charge through the nose and come highly recommended can do at least as good. I did try to get Dyno Dave (Sydney Dyno) to do it but he'd broken his wrist and and was laid up. Makes me even more pissed because I'd done a lot of research determined to find the best dyno shop I could. These guys probably do great work too it's just whichever failbot they put on my job.

I must admit I've been spoilt with good mechanics over the years, I'd forgotten. When I lived in Newcastle I used Jamie @ BikeCare, always looked after me, charged fairly and never faulted the work. Here in Sydney I found Glenn at AllFixed, same story.

Oh well, lesson learnt.

So you haven't had a chance to test it yet?? Rerouting and checking connectors, etc hasn't helped??

I tested it couldn't reproduce it. The fact that it's so intermittent though doesn't mean it's fixed. It only happened 4 times in about 150km so I guess I could ride it for 100km and not have it happen once if the dice roll the right way.

Just left it with Glenn for a couple of days. He had a couple of ideas about what to look for. I'm taking it away touring on Thursday morning, which includes night rides and my schedule is pretty full with work and meetings up until then. Seemed like the best option.

PS wtf re your 12 Wilso! Quite a lot in common there. Maybe the drongo moved to Northern beaches after having his way with your 12.

all the 12's have issues eventually with those idiotic crimp-nuts or whatever they are called - fucken shithouse design if you ask me.

Broken tabs on the inner fairing covers are also really common. Sometimes they don't even need the hand of a dodgy mechanic to break them  ....

I haven't had any headlight issues though......and will be checking that battery-tray hole shortly myself  that was a new one....

Glenn couldn't find anything wrong. Checked the relay, stator, all the wiring and connectors...

I'm thinking now maybe it's the relay (have to do the test posted on other forum somewhere) if it hasn't already been rectified. But the problem still hasn't reoccured so maybe between the both of us we managed to fix it somehow.

Only time will tell.

Well SHIT!

Dyno'd it again, got good power, added even more timing over and above the +4 at the bottom end, which smoothed it out even more, now pulls hard from way down low. Dyno'd at 170 on Bikebiz's dyno, which they said is good for their dyno. Interestingly they said the +4 is great for this bike at most throttle openings... so if anyone wants a nice cheap timing mod it's got the thumbs up. They didn't have to retard it anywhere.

Now the bad news.

Apparently it was rich, way rich, I knew this of course... but to hear them tell me just how f'ed up the tune was just makes me see red. 25% rich at all throttle pretty much. So they couldn't get anything right, not one thing... not even a bulletproof monkey tune.

Not only does it STILL have the headlight issue, but it's dropping down to 2 and 3 cylinders at low RPM. Went into motorcycle weaponry 100% a-ok, came out a friggen FUBAR POS. At least now we've isolated the wiring issue, something with the stick coil connectors / TPS.

The saga continues.

Filled em in on where it was at and told em to spend an hour looking and then give me a call. Not much else left to check on it  Switch blocks and earth's have been checked.

It's only headlights after all... come to think of it I'm only 90% sure it wasn't already like this when I first bought it. Not like I've done a lot of night riding.
