My New Project
My New Project
Hey guys,
I'm new to the site and am looking forward to getting many new ideas and picking all of your brains in the future. I just wanted to come by and introduce myself. Recently I purchased a 2009 250r ninja for $2k. The seller had dropped the bike on the left side and wasn't allowed to keep it anymore so I was happy to take it off her hands. I've since repaired the damage and done a few things to make it look alittle different to the stock 250's. I'm pretty happy with the way its turned out thus far but I have one problem. It doesn't LOOK COMPLETE!!! and its killing me!!! there is something visually missing here and I wonder if you guys could help suggest something that I can do that can tie what I have already done to the colour of the bike. Below is a list of what I have already done:
Two Brothers exhaust
Tinted Windscreen (i've actually heard this is illegal, why, I cannot fathom, but oh wellz, its done now)
New Gear Lever
New Front Left indicator
2nd hand left side fairing
2nd hand rear left fairing
rim stickers
250rr limited edition decal
New hard seat cowl (still waiting for it in the mail)
Digital Gear indicator
I am thinking about changing the indicators to a more sporty look with some I found on Ebay but am holding off on that atm & I was considering a fender eliminator, but that is illegal and more noticeable then a tinted windscreen I reckon.
Anyways, please suggest something I could do to tie it together, I was thinking a kanji decal with some red in it or something. What do you guys think?

Yes it's rare, but you can get booked for a fender eliminator.
It's l risk but I guess.

Thanks for the reply guys. Well I'm working on a budget because I don't plan on keeping this bike for too long. I want to get a bigger bike once this is done. I've decided against the fender eliminator but I do have the seat cowl coming out. I'll post a pic once the seat cowl is on. Any other suggestions please let me know guys.
Cheers

Re: My New Project
Getting done for the fender eliminator is usually only done when its in conjunction with being a hoon or a smart arse to the cops.I've been pulled over a dozen times for breath tests and the like and only one cop questioned the eliminator on my old 250 and it was only as a casual comment. That was near Bald HIll.The stock fender looks so shit that it has to go!

Re: My New Project
As wattie said, a lot of people will beg to differ, the girlfriends been done, and she wasnt hooning, funny that day, because there was a few of us out, and he only nailed her for it, i was on my zx10r and it had no number plate light as well, and he never said anything, and i was giving him a bit of flack as well.well he was been a tool!!!!
Another time, not long ago, was out riding on my zx7r, got pulled over, outside healsville, they were on a mission to nail every bike for something that day, and yep they got me for it, and its still got the fucking reflector on it, with lights working!!!! go figure....

Re: My New Project
I previously owned a Megelli 250r when I first got my P's in 09. Bought it on a whim because I wanted something different to everybody out there, so I bought it without test riding or anything. My Megelli was the 7th one to roll out of the yard in Australia. This was the first edition (test dummy) one. Oh boy was that a mistake!! No power, no anything, of course I knew nothing about bikes at the time, it was all cosmetic stuff I was interested in at the time, but now I know a little more about bikes, my next bike will be mainly focused on power over cosmetics. In saying, I've been riding for only 3 years but I've yet to be pulled over once by a copper, so the FE I guess should be considered. But like I was saying earlier, trying to keep the costs down as much as possible so that when I do sell it, I've maximised my profit. I know the mods wont do much (if anything) to my resale but the appearance of the bike needs to capture my future buyers attention as much as possible. I picked up the bike for 2k and to date have spent $550 total on repairs and mods. So I think I'm doing ok so far. I've had a look at current resale values and they say anywhere up to $4.9k. Anyways, other then the FE, would there be anything else you guys think I should add to the bike at minimal cost?

Re: My New Project
Just remember, what u do to it, u will like, but someone else may not.
If ur only going to keep it for a bit, i would prob keep it simple, rim stickers ect, just little things that dont cost much, but can be removed if new buyer dont like.
And save the big bling stuff for ur next bike. if u plan on keeping the next one a while.

I'd agree with all when saying don't spend much because most people only buy 250s as a transition bike. They aren't planning on being on it long.Shmitty wrote:But like I was saying earlier, trying to keep the costs down as much as possible so that when I do sell it, I've maximised my profit. Personally i don't think anyone will get $4.9 for 09 model after the price cuts on the brand new models. From my own recent experience selling a 2010 250 ninja most people are asking the following 4 things.
- Ever been dropped?
- Low kms?
- Has it got all the stock equipment included? muffler and rear fender
- How much tread is left on the tyres?
Re: My New Project
Thanks heaps for all the input guys, I guess I can consider my project complete. Thankfully bike is still like new! only got 6.5k kms on it, so I'll look at passing this on around January 12.

Re: My New Project
Nah, it needs some USD forks. And some cams. If you're worried about resale......don't buy bikes.

Re: My New Project
Ditch the passenger pegs and get a nice black or carbon exhaust hanger... I reckon that's the only thing that sticks out like dogs balls in that pic. Just my 2 bob.
PS when you sell it might be an idea to bring it back to stock and sell off the aftermarket kit separate... get some of your hard earned back that way.
