I gave up over 10 years ago after being a pack a day plus. Tried many things at the end of the day if you aren't in the right mind set then you will fail but that doesn't meant you can't win. One thing that I did was to have a cigarette in complete darkness where you can't see the smoke as I wanted to know how much was habitual/ physical. I realised that much of it was physical, if I could get past the nicotine I only had to break the physical habit. I took some doing, for months after giving up I would get into the car and look to grab a smoke. Still had a lighter 2 years after giving up that I would carry around.

Some people are predisposed to be "addicts" drugs, sweets, caffeine etc so it is more than the actual drug they are taking as I have found out.

I feel I should add to the discussion. Been a smoker for 35 years, and yes to give up you need to have a mind set but fuck I'm glad I had one. Smoke free for 6 months now AND FEELING REALLY GOOOOOOOOOOD.

Just found This thread and thought I'd fit right in. Smoker for "God forbid is that another century over" and the good old doc telling me that my problem is happening because of the Gaspers. Well after a health wake up call I'm no longer a smoker but it does really piss me off when you've gone for that really quick fang and would really like a smoke. Bugger!!!!!!!!!

Had a discussion with my sister yesterday regarding 'smoking dreams'. She asked if this was normal? I have no idea!

It has been almost seven months since I quit (YAY! :kuda: ) and I have probably had about 10 dreams about smoking - usually I don't actually smoke the cigarettes, I just procure them, but a couple of nights ago I was smoking heaps and they were really good

Anyone else have the smoking dreams?? Please tell me I am not insane..... ;)

You are naturally insane anyway Mel :P

Nah your not insane....Thats normal, had plenty when I have given up in the past, weird feeling when you remember the dream when ya wake up and do a quick reality check to find out you actually haven't. Kinda like the times I wake up with a bed full of strangers after a big night on the tiles

ok . .. so I have something I would like to share/discuss with the non-smokers and verified quitters here :D (No, thats not you Steve ;) )

Ive been smoke free since starting this thread and going strong 8) . . . . and no, I havnt fallen off the wagon! . .

BUT ... as some of you know . .. . Im expecting my first child in April next year :kuda: and of course, the traditional cigar was always in the back of my mind.

WELL . .. as it happens, I actually got permission from" her that makes all laws" :? . . that this would be the one and only time that I could smoke . . . :?

THEN .. I happen to mention to one of my clients this, and what does he do? . .. Pulls out a box of Genuine Cuban friggn cigars!!! . .. Gives me one and says allow 3 hours and half a bottle of scotch for this sucker . .

Sooooooooo .......... having said all this, should I stick with the nil smoko, OR give in to this once in a lifetime endulgance . . .
