Potential 2010 z1000 owner
I have the bug after not owning a bike for a few years. I have narrowed my choice down to two bikes I really like.
One is of course the new z1000 the second is the Honda cb 1300. Two different bikes but both with a lot of charm. The honda has old school looks is a cheaper to buy but on the other hand the new z looks mad ( maybe a bit too mad?) and I could pick up a newer model (still used though) at only a slightly higher price than the earlier cb.
I keep swinging back between the 2 bikes and thought that perhaps some 2010 z1000 owners (and others) could give me some of their opinions ..of course I realise this is a Kwasaki forum..so i dont expect anyone to say "get the cb"..but some first hand "vibe" on the Z would help
Last bike was a 2003 zx9 buy the way.
Cheers.

Hmm the zed is a great looking bike. There are plenty of z1000 riders here who can attest it. Calling possum et al...

I'd ride a ZRX1200 before you go buying a CB1300. After that, you will be tossing up between the ZRX and the Z1000.

Yeah, consider what Nelso says. He's on the money. I have a ZRX and have ridden a couple of CB1300's. They are slower steering, heavier, more top heavy, worse suspension, won't hold as tight a line, don't have as much ground clearance, ride position is not as comfy nor as good when "pressing on", brakes are no different seat is more comfy on the Honda, but a Mr. Wog's or a Sergeant fixes that. They also don't have the engine that the Kawasaki has. Sure, bottom end and midrange is similiar, but the ZRX keeps on boiling when the CB has signed off and is begging you for another gear.
Personally, I would just go find a good 2nd hand ZRX and go enjoy it. Mines got 80,000 klms on it and Is staying in my shed forever.
(Fuck... actually, that last comment is ironically true.... it has sat in my shed all year this year....
)

Re: Potential 2010 z1000 owner
Thanks for the replies so far. Good to see this forum is very lively ( I went on the cb1300 forum and it seems a tad slow i think because there just isnt a great deal of them around)
A "happening" forum with enthusiastic owners is another good reason to by another z bike.
I called into my local dealer today. He didn't have a z1000 but did have a new ninja 1000. With the price on a new one of these being so good (14700) I could be temped to save a few more bucks and lash out for a newy...but I could pick up a near new z1000 now..
I prefer the look of the z1000 and they seem very similar in spec to the ninja 1000 apart from larger fuel tank and fairings on the ninja..
So ..Im pretty sold on the Z1000..

Take them both for a test ride and let us all know what you thought. A dealer with both in stock would be handy. Welcome to the forum mate

Re: Potential 2010 z1000 owner
I found a nice z1000 to have a sit on..and after looking around at some other options (the bike was at a suzuki dealers) I still want the z1000. It will pretty much just be a matter of finding one at the right price.
Its was lovely to sit on ..I felt right at home and was surprised how lite it felt compared to my 2003 zx9..the search is on now!

Re: Potential 2010 z1000 owner
I am still on the hunt.
Luckily I really enjoy this part of the buying process and have time to do go through all the ins and outs....because.. it seems bike hunting is a tricky business.(if your a fussy F**K like me). The prices are all over the shop even at dealers..some dealers have some models and not others..hard to get in certain colours at some dealers.
This being said..I have now taken a big liking to the Z750 ( In white).. particularly as I would be able to buy a new one with the funds I have available whereas.. the z1000 would only be a goer as a new-near option.
The hunt continues..
PS: The only thing about the z750 I dont like is the ugly swingarm that looks like a piece of 4x2 wood. Is there any way to give a swingarm a tad more "sex appeal"???
PS

Re: Potential 2010 z1000 owner
After talking to my local dealer (Race Replica Kawasaki).. they have offered me a deal I cant knock back (seems I picked a good time to shop for Kawasaki's) ...so..within a week or 2 I will be the the proud owner of a blacker than black 2012 brand spanking new z1000 !!
certainly something to look forward to.
PS: I'm selling some of my guitar collection to finance the bike..so if anyone is in the market for a good ( as new) electric git..then keep me in mind.

Awesome
I too sold a guitar to finance a bike. It was my GS500 and the guitar was a Gibson 335 so it almost paid for the whole thing

Yes a 335 is worth a fair wack..
Still hanging on to my 75 strat my Jimmy page les paul and a few others I will never part with..
Had to sus out what the insurance was guna be for the z..quite a bit more than the cb1300 which I guess makes sense and pretty much a must I think..
In the process of cleaning out the shed to make room for the new arival..we have a narrow back door otherwise I think she would be living inside!
