well i've got a 12R on loan for a couple months or so.... was curious about fuel economy so i'm pleased to see the search function works here.
i havent read all of the posts in this thread but smitty's report of 290km out of a tank is true, i squeezed 281 out of the loan 12 before it started spluttering a tad and then i had to fill it.. bowser read 19.83L.. and that was after a fang to wollombi and back plus a few commutes to work and back home...
smart riding will get you big kms out of a tank. bit like i was getting 320km to a tank out of my GSXR 1000 K6.. and that was going on 17.7L at the bowser with a few drops left... oh, and i believe 95,000km on the clock helps a lot too, engines only start to get run in about then...

when *is* a 12r motor said to be fun in/"loosened" up???
14k on the clock.. and best i have managed is 11k/litre

Mine's got 6000 on it and I my last square is flashing by 200... that was on a "downloaded map" though... Since it's been dyno'd it seems a bit better but I haven't run it down that low yet.

wouldnt have a clue as to the time that an engine is run in, i guess that depends partly on how well you maintain the engine and how you treat the engine while youre riding. from memory i'd say i started seeing a gradual improvement in fuel economy after about 50,000km. ive had similar reports from a friend with an 05 R1 that ended up with over 150,000 on the clock.
there's a few differing opinions on suitable methods of running an engine in - a few track days, do it as the factory recommends.. etc etc.. but i say - ride the farkin' thing properly.

(having bought it with only a few thousand clicks back in 2005..it was previously owned by a merchant seaman who bought it new in 2000)

honestly i don't no how you fella's get near that fuel consumpion? if your injectors are in need of a clean (blocked) they can regulate the fuel which will give you economy.
