1996 zx7r fuel starving?

Post by Rikodeine »

Hi all, new here. Just bought this bike virtually unridden as it was unregistered at the time. Finding now at 4500 rpm bike really seems to starve of fuel and gives me nothing. It doesn't pull too well either at the lower rpm's. The coolant is still green and bike starts well but idles a little erratically - how sinister do you think the problem could be?

Could it be a coil/coils..?
Start the bike from cold feel all the header pipes as it's warming up..carefull not to burn your fingers....
If by chance a header pipe is cold or not as warm as the others test the coil that goes to that cylinder...
Checked the plugs..?

Glad your suggestions seem to be minor issues. I am not mechanically versed at all so I was packing it that it could be a massive problem. Bike went into the shop today hoping the mechanic gives me good news - and hope i have it back for the weekend 8)

Thinking of the issues I just had (running on three cylinders), it's possible that the carbs may need a clean out. 'Cleaned the carbs & put new plugs in and all is good. My plug coils seemed fine.

I'd be giving it a good once over or your mechanic.....plugs, fluids(oil, brake fluid ), check air filter, brake pads, carbs cleaned & balanced.

change the fuel filter
Clean the carbies, new plugs, air (done i assume from previous post) and get a air box ASAP.
Check that you are getting full fuel from the pump.
There are those that have and, those that will....

rather not mention the business of the new mechanic incase repairs aren't successful again. He used to work in a bike dealerships though. I have recommendations for show and go and K&m at Richmond. Can you recommend anyone else if it doesn't get fixed this time?
