I agree 100% with what your doing Phil. I love the passion that some people go to with their restortions, but like you say, "its over restoration" the bike needs to be as was. Im sure it will be a show peice simply because of that. It doesnt need the "bling" as it has the history.

Spot on, it bugs me when I see back to 'original' restorations that have a better finish than when new.

These are the original disks that have been machined. Down from 7mm to 4.5mm and 600gms lighter for each disk. I wouldn't use the guy who did it again because he charged me twice what he quoted me and I was too silly to get the quote in writing so it's his word against mine. He also insisted on payment by COD to which I stupidly agreed. However, the end product is pretty speccy so I guess you take stuff like that on the chin sometimes, eh?

They do look very flash in the photos mate, I can only guess that in the flesh they look even better ? Shame about the pricing issues though... :x that sux donkey balls.

In some good news though - Chris dropped past my place yesterday with all those other bits from Higgsy - :kuda: - sensational is all I can say. One odd thing took my eye - that sprocket carrier that came with this bike, is like *no* other sprocket carrier I have in the 4th ! It does have a Made In Japan casting in the reverse side - and all the bearing sizes and cush-drive rubbers will fit a stock H2/Z9 drum hub - but I have never seen one with this particular pattern of casting ribs in it for any of the 900/1000's I have ?

I intend to finish work on both the front & rear hubs this weekend, and then both hubs will be heading out to Greg's place for spoking up. He has also ordered me 3 WM3 rims - 2 for the S1 250/3, and one for the H2 750/3. They can wait until your wheels are done, before he spokes them up for me.

Daylight saving has come at just the right time for this build ! :kuda:

Mate, I make no representations as to what that gear Chris bought you was. It was just stuff in the styrofoam boxes. Kent had several VF1000R's later on, it could have come from one of them. He also had a ZX9-R that he rode around Europe on as well, so who knows? Great news about the hubs, had an email from Greg saying he and you spent a lot of time in the shed bench racing when you took them out there, too. I can't imagine that.... . Also had a PM from John saying he has a box at his place!! :D :D

I was also pretty busy over this weekend, and have finished preparing a lot of the parts. These include the rear drum hub that has been donated to the project by Dale - thanks heaps mate, it has come up really well....

Both front & rear hubs have been tidied up with some light polishing of the outer flanges, and the inner hubs have been done with Satin Black, which is pretty close to an OEM finish. It looks way neat. These hubs are going to old mate the wheel spoker this week, so they can be mated up to the rims.

A few of the outer engine covers have all been tidied up, and the heatproof engine paint was baked on. The motor on this bike was finished in all-flat engine black back in the day, so that is how we are going with the build this time......

Here are some pics.

In holding pattern at the moment, Dave. Most things that need doing are in the hands of others just now and sometimes you have to wait. ACT Head Services have the head removing the stubborn spark plug, replacing the broken valve stem seal and rebuilding the tower where the tacho drive screws in. RAD Hard Chroming in Rocklea has the fork tubes that are being straightened (I didn't know they were bent) and re-chromed. Greg Roberts has the rims and hubs and is undertaking the wheel rebuild and Chris Dowde down here in Dapto is *cough* supposed to be rebuilding the box-section swingarm.

Apart from that, all is well!! It's probably just as well that these jobs haven't all come back at once because money is a tad tight at the moment. So that's the state of play. Having said all that, they probably WILL all finish at once, that might be (ahem) interesting.

Cheers Phil....all good things come to those who wait.

Came across these pics that look similar to shadowfax.....also based around a Mk11. :kuda:
