ZRX Carbs + Heater circuit
Question about the carbs on my '01 Rex.
I notice that there is a coolant line runs under the carbs, to supposedly heat the carbs and prevent icing. Is it strictly necessary to have that here in Oz? Are we prone to icing up in the carb area?
Thanks,
Bill.

I disconnected mine on my ZZR12. Ran ok except when I was in Canberra it wouldn't run smoothly and used mega fuel.

Re: ZRX Carbs + Heater circuit
US bikes apparently don't have that plumbing on their carbs. I don't see these items listed on the Ron Ayers (http://fiche.ronayers.com/) website fiche either, nor the PowerSportsPlus site (http://www.powersportsplus.com/parts/se ... parts.html).
I broke off the end of one of the small spiggots, where a de-icing circuit hose fits on.
I will by-pass it for now.
Thanks,
Bill.

Re: ZRX Carbs + Heater circuit
I removed mine a while back when the carbs were off for re-jetting, never really had any problems with poor running or carb icing........
Re: ZRX Carbs + Heater circuit
Airplanes have a carb heater, (electric) and it causes a definite power loss. The airplane carb heater is mainly used when loosing altitude, as that is when the carbs tend to freeze, and of course in very cold conditions. The way we test them on the preflight check is turn the carb heat switch on and listen for a drop in RPM. I would think you would have a power increase by removing the heater circuit, but WTF do I know? Well being that I asked, I know Jim Beam is a fine brown liquid.

Well this is true. Now if it can stop your carbs from icing with no loss of power you might be on to somethingoldman wrote: Well being that I asked, I know Jim Beam is a fine brown liquid.

It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.

Re: ZRX Carbs + Heater circuit
At the risk of digging up this tired thread, the heating to the carbs on the ZRX, and other bikes, was put there because of problems that, as I understand it, were pretty much confined to the Canberra area. My bike's heating circuit got clogged at the filter and the bike ran like a POS in winter in Canberra. Outside Canberra it seemed fine. If your bike starts running like a POS in Canberra in Winter remember to replace the filter gauze in the carb warming circuit.I disconnected mine on my ZZR12. Ran ok except when I was in Canberra it wouldn't run smoothly and used mega fuel.
The guys at Canberra Motorcycle Center were telling me that Kwak Australia fitted the warming circuits to the carbs because of the problems they had with bikes they sold there. Something to do with the exact weather conditions - the humidity and the air temp. Doesn't seem logical because north America is much colder but they don't have the warming circuits. Who could guess what it is, but I'm not surprised you noticed the problem in Canberra.
