NSW- stat write off's
Hey guys,
I know they brought in some law about this, is there anyone who knows the finer details about this?
From my understanding you CANNOT register a stat write off, or write off now.
Before you could fix up a stat w-o and get it passed and Rego it, now you can't correct??
Cheers, Tim

Correct but there is a loophole for special vehicles like historic classic etc & there is a mountain of paperwork involved & no guarantee of a registrable outcome.
There is no such thing as a reparable write off in NSW anymore.

Re: NSW- stat write off's
So do you think there will be a lot more written off bikes with minimal damage now avail cheaper...for track bikes or spares etc..
Or more bikes being repaired by the insurance companies.
Surely the insurance companies wouldn't retrieve as much for a writeoff compared to a fixable stat writeoff...If the latter is the case I'm sure the authourised repair centres and wreckers will be jacking up their prices and cleaning up from the insurers as I'm sure they can use second hand parts for repairs....Might be time to open up a wreckers.

I have been told that the insurance companies might fix up to 90% of the value because they cant salvage like they used to .... wreckers will not pay premium & I have heard that they will even start stripping down entire bikes to repair frames, which was unheard of before

On the other hand there should be some well priced late model track bikes available at wreckers and wholesalers

The frame you buy from KWAK won't have a vin number. They normally stamp it with the one being replaced, but in this case it would be a write off too.TITANIUMBULLET wrote:if i buy a stat write off and buy a brand new frame from kawasaki /ducati say? and then swap everything over to new frame can it get regoed that way??

Although it's likely going to get an answer of "no", it may be worth posing the question to the Engineering dudes at the RTA, you never know.
Re: NSW- stat write off's
I believe that if its written off in NSW it can't be registered anywhere.

Re: NSW- stat write off's
I believe you are correct, if it is on the register it doesn't matter. Having said that if it was written off before the cut off date then it can be registered. I have heard of some cousins sending the "repaired" bikes to the middle east
