Hole in the Head - 2000 ZX6R

Post by Phoenix »

Five months into the restoration and now I found a hole in the head. HELP!! WTF?? Can someone with the same model please identify and hopefully tell me it's nothing to worry about.
The location is (with panelwork removed) left hand side of the head. Come down from the rocker cover where there are two head bolts, between them a hose exits the head and directly below the hose is the hole.
QUESTION: What is the purpose of this hole and is there the chance of engine damage if dirt gets in it?
The previous owner dropped the bike in mud and this hole was full of dirt. With a probe in the hole, it goes in 43mm - into what I don't know without removing the rocker cover.

In the OEM drawing it shows a plug (Part No. 92066D), on my bike this is where the hose is attached and you can see the hole just below where this plug fits.

Any comments appreciated.
Thanks all.

Thanks everyone for all your advise But Ken from Vic M/C wreckers gave me the answer. Turns out it's a drain hole for the spark plug wells - Thanks Ken.
