Desperation.... car mechanic needed..

Post by Supafrog »

Does anyone know any nice mechanics in Perth (northern suburbs) that would be willing to have a look at a piece of dead daewoo?

The said boat anchor is taking up space in carport... and because i know no one in this place I figured someone might feel sorry for me...

Naaah..

It sounds like a timing belt issue...
grinding sound when trying to kick over...

doesn't sound pretty. and wont start..

It's had it's toiming belt break previously, and another bearing in there go... so i don't want to take off timing cover as i don't actually know what i'm looking for :(

Timing belts are durable and for the most part will just keep on keeping on for the duration of the service interval, be it 65, 100 or 150kkm.
Could be something like a jumped tooth on the timing belt, which isn't good in an interference engine.

If it's a horrible noise from the top end it may be worth cracking open the rocker cover and look to see if it has imploded there, you may not know what you're looking at, but you should have a fair enough idea to know bent and shredded aluminium when you see it. Worst case scenario pay $500 for a new engine from a wreckers/ebay and pay someone a slab of beer or two to fit it (with the proviso it is only partly consumed during the job, lest it takes waaaay too long to do), it's not that hard to do.
