Post by steve086 »

i have a gearbox issue with my bloody zxr750 when down changing gears you put it in second gear it engages in the gear then slips into neutral i am assuming this is a split the engine cases job? or is there an easy way?

I had the same problem with my 90 model, it was worn selector drum :(
I am not sure if the cases had to be split the mechanic was suggesting it may be done without splitting

I've only worked on a ZX9R and a z650 box, but on both of those it depended where the damage was. If it's just the selector drum and forks then you can get away with doing it through the sump, even though it will be a bit fiddly.

However if there's damage to the dogs on the gears from slipping out too much then you'll have to split the cases to get to them.

Either way you can probably get a good idea by dropping the sump and having a good look up at what damage there is.
