2010 ZX10r Questions ??

Post by broomie21 »

Hi There
I have just purchased a 2010 Zx10r and have a couple of probably stupid questions ?
1. I am 6'5"and have trouble with the gear changes due to where the foot pegs are positioned. Can they be adjusted and how ? The one i test rode felt just right ?????
2. When I turn the bike off there is a long whistle noise for about 5 seconds and then stops ? Does anyone know what this is ? Is this normal ?

Any suggestions would be welcomed. :D

Hey mate,

The Footpegs are not adjustable, but the gear and brake levers are. So if you are having trouble with gearchanges, maybe adjust the height of the gear lever?

The whistle is the fuel tank cap breather.
Its standard kawasaki noise 8)

Enjoy your new bike :D

Broomie, I also have a 2010 10R and am 6'4". I bought a pair of Vortex rear-sets (ex USA), flipped them left to right & upside down and hey presto the pegs are 30mm lower and it makes a huge difference. Also fitted some Helibars. Much more comfortable now. :D

I have 2010 ZX10 and have fitted riser clipon handlebars and it has made a huge difference. Even on a short ride before I put them on my lower back would seize up and now I have no troubles. I'm 5'8". Raising the handlebars also made a huge difference with throttle control in slow corners. It's a lot easier to maintain smooth throttle control in the tighter stuff. I'm still considering putting some rear sets on to lower the foot pegs a little from the standard ones. Especially for the long rides to the Island and back. :) Nelso put rearsets on his ZX10 track bike, he's 6' tall and can't bend his knees very far, but he put them on the opposite way so that he could get the footpegs lower. He has no trouble at all with them scraping. :kuda:

Haha yeah i dunno i think they have had to deal with there frames all there life so a bit of posture pain on a bike is nothing to them i guess. Both have to duck under door frames constantly.

Look how skinny they are! No wonder they have no trouble folding themselves in half to fit on a bike.

The problem is not so much fitting on them for short rides on the weekend, the bigger issue is when you do a trip and ride all day for four days straight. If you're young and built like a skeleton you fold up quite easily, but if you are of larger frame, or old, or have bad joints (sadly for me I have all 3), things start to ache rather quickly and make it hard to ride. If it's a track bike then you can get away with it being a little uncomfortable as you are on it for short stints, but it's worth making a road bike more comfortable as you shouldn't be riding it as agressively and you can often spend long periods of time riding them.
