Hi - I'm new here, and I want to destroy a ZZR250

Post by 1WD »

Hi All. I'm Aaron, and I'm new here. 8)

A couple of your fellow inmates may know me from other corners of the web.

What brings me here is a little ZZR250 that I got a while ago for my girlfriend to start riding on. She hasn't pulled her finger out yet, and I've had other plans for the bike...

I want to modify it to suit the dirt. Particularly to take part in the Scrapheap Adventure Ride, held each year.

I'll strip the front end out of it, put a KLX 250 (or similar) front end in it, toss the fairings and existing front end in the bin, raise the rear and chuck some dirt suitable tyres on it and maybe some matte black paint for that shitkicker look.

So... I'm actually looking for a few bits (that don't really need to be of any substantial quality) to make this project come to life.

If anyone is wrecking a KLX 250 or have one that they no longer want, feel free to drop me a line. I'm also looking for a ZZR tail light too.

Ive got a 83 or so klr chook chaser, motor needs top end, suspension is plush, however when i was bashing around the paddock(about 1yr ago) it all worked well except for smokey, all lights stripped off it.

Yours for $200, you freight. ;)

As noone else has done so yet, guess i'll be the first to say HELLO & WELCOME

Sounds as though you'd be better off just using a 'dirty' outright ;)

Welcome aboard, it's a totally plausible thing to do, though I wish you the best of luck in doing a suitable conversion on your zxr, some parts like a rear shock may be particularly tricky to do.

There's a thread on the advrider thread dedicated to this exact subjec,(link here) also I am 90% the way doing a similar thing on a GSX250 twin (link here). just remember not to be afraid about mixing and matching across manufacturers if the parts fit.

The easiest parts in this regard are front forks, the easiest thing to do is get forks with the same diameter as your current ones and toss them in the tree, or frankenbike them (i did this so i got to keep my current front end, but just have longer suspension reach). Next option is either getting a custom triple manufactured, or find another tree that will closely fit yours and needs minimal to no modification to suit your bike (i.e. bearing seats or maybe a different length head-stem rod.

Though i dare say another big challenge is going to find a rear shock that will suit, or making one fit.
