Had all the plastics off the 12 this weekend.
Anyway, put it back together and I've got 2 spare allen bolts, look identical to the ashtray/fuel cap bolts - stainless steel, only about 2 mm longer, and with little black plastic washers.
Can't figure out where they go. Would anyone happen to know off the top of their head?
Can't find them in the service manual either, and it certainly feels and looks like it's been put back together properly.

If it runs and nothing falls off without them, then you don't need 'em .....

I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..
If it's got wheels or tits, it's gonna give you trouble !

When you say ALL, do you mean the rear tail and the nose cone?JPaddo wrote:Had all the plastics off the 12 this weekend.

The only bolts that I can think of that are S/S are the ashtray steel cover on the tank and they are hex key (allen key), there are 2 x shorter and 2 x longer for this and all 4 are S/S.
Sure you didnt remove anything else?
The only other hex key screws in the panels/fairings:
Rear tank/airbox cover once seat is removed. not S/S
Lower rear bellypan behind footpegs both sides. not S/S
Mid fairing behind air vents at engine cyl head height each side. not S/S
So have you put other screws in the tank cover ashtray plate that should be somewhere else like under the air scoop in front wheel area?
Might be from front guard/fender but they have a bigger cap head.
Might be from around the guages area, I give up

Re: ZX12 spare bolts - can't remember where they go
Sh!t found it. ...
When you said 2 short, 2 long I had a look, turns out the bolts for yoshi low volume insert uses the exact same bolts as the short ashtray bolts, and when I put it back together I accidentally used those instead and got left with the long ones. The plastic washers threw me off too. Bet Glenn chucked em on there when I had it in for service.
Cheers for the help.
