Luv my Rex but so far the following things have gone wrong with it in 39000km:
Just about to get its third starter chain tensioner and chain
Radiator shrouds and footpeg brackets corroding (I don't live near the beach either- powdercoat came off footpeg brackets- pillion.)
Cracked two tailpieces
throttle cables rub speedo housing rubbing a hole in it
Leaking oil from new with a not tightened oil line
mirrors go loose
second set of front wheel bearings and third set of steering head bearings
broke down in first month when ignition coil fell off frame due to loose mounting nut- disconnected the coil when it did so
Broke down again on highway with no fuel flow- pulled apart fuel tap on side of road, couldn't find anything wrong and hasn't played up again.
lost a few rubber caps out of frame.
lost bolt out of subframe and second bolt loose- first bolt hidden behind radiator shroud so can't be seen- caused a scary tanslapping instability when you hit 200km/h....speed limiting device...so bad it nearly threw me off the bike
coolant filter clogged solid with paint at 20000km....weird. must have internal paint in cooling system
I think it is on its fourth or fifth headlight bulb. Piss poor thin wiring stock so have rewired it with heavy wiring and relays- absolutely huge improvement in light output and so far havent blown a bulb. Fingers crossed.
Guess it has been a piece of shit really. Luv it though so it is staying. :)

Shit mate, you got a fucking dud!!!

Mine is an 01 S model, so it's naturally a far better bike as a result. ;) Mine has done 80,000klms and apart from holing a carb diaphragm (from a bit of crud from the crsh repair) nothing has ever failed apart from a battery...that I can remember anyway. It did stop once just after getting back on it while riding at 100kph. The motor just died. When I pulled over, I turned the fuel tap to reserve and it fired straight back up. I flicked it to on shortly after, it ran fine & has not done it again since, so figure it was a bit of vapour lock. :?

It has had one set of steering head, wheel and sprocket carrier bearings at 77,000klms, is still on the original front rotors, and as others have experienced cost me nothing really apart from tyres, pads, sprockets, chains, oil, filters and a set one set of plugs at 70,000klms and the clearances done at 75,000klms.....for the first time!!!!! :kuda:

I can't tell you how good a bike the rex is. Best bike I have ever owned both in terms of reliability and also grin factor!!!! Fucking hard not to love them once you realise how fucking capable they are. Man, someone keeps quoting my quote, but it is 'More than the sum of it's parts"................. ;)

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?
