Race Fairings for 05 Zx6...Your Thoughts...

Post by Maddog »

After some feedback on Race Glass for an 05 ZX6...
I know there are a few manufacturers out there but would like to know who makes the......

Best quality.....(don't want it to snap in half while installing it...and somewhat crash resistant)
Best finished...(don't want to spend hours prepping it for paint) or wrap... ;)
Best fitting.....(again dont want to spend hours getting it to line up) zeus fasteners would be good also
Best priced.....(Obvious)

Any one that has this model track/race bike....your comments and experiences would be appreciated..
Who/where did you purchase your glass from.....

If this project goes ahead I will be on the hunt for other bits n pieces also.
Engine covers,Rear sets,Levers,Braided lines...etc...etc..(will check with site sponsors)

Cheers

The stuff from Handcraft Fiberglass is a good fit........ no need for mucking around just drill your holes & bolt it up.
Only problem is you have to go through Wethimself

Oh & no matter what anyone says you always have to prep for painting.... there is no getting around it
Tail pieces & nose cones are always ,made from 2 half moulds & there will always be a join that needs to be sanded down etc

Check out the Woodcraft website. But I don't know how much shipping would sting you for a set of fairings.

a mate got his Yammy fairings from Nicecycle.com when he dropped his a while back......all predrilled and plenty of different ones to choose from and fitted very nicely.

And nothing is really crash resistant.......just dont drop it

Wanna sell yours and save me all the headaches....

I have been looking at the ones you all have mentioned and am leaning towards the wet ones..Cause they're in Syd
Got the Brilliant ones on the watch list as they are on the button price wise and leave a bit left over for paint etc....
Any one you know tried them Dave...??...How's the quality and fittment
Not so keen on the plastic ones...Woodcraft ones look the goods but...Shipping..??..??

Thanks all for the feedback.. :kuda:

Hey Rob, get out a set of both and weigh them, I think the results will surprise you. Modern plastic stuff is very light. Very, very, very light. A small stone will go straight through the front of most modern fairings on road going bikes as the plastics are so thin these days. (I have put several in late model blades on rides over the past few years.)

However, the advantage of glass fairings has never been in weight. Carbon yes, that saves weight, but glass is actually quite heavy once it's got the right amount of resin in it. Then, if it's ever repaired, it will be heavier again!! The real advantage of glass, is repairability more than anything else.

(When comparing weights, I am suggesting that it's like for like, as in, no noise suppression padding or insulation on the plastics, as the race glass would be.)
