Re: 2011 ZX10R Race bike build, from street to track.
A small item turned up in the mail the other day;

Driven block off plates to eliminate the emissions control system of the ZX10R.
In stock trim there exists an electronically controlled valve that feed fresh air from the airbox into 2 parts of the cylinder head to dilute exhaust gases in order for the manufacturer to pass emissions controls. After fitting the race harness the electronics for this valve was removed. As such the valve was stuck wide open and far too much fresh air went into the exhaust causing all sorts of mayhem. A short term solution was to use the existing pipe work to simply join two openings sealing the whole lot up. This will be the permanent solution.
Installation photos to follow.

Righto;
Step 1; Remove tank, and airbox to reveal the original emissions components. This shows the temporary fix whereby a length of hose is used to join the pair of inlets. Bit of a bodge and will wear loose after time.

Step 2; Remove original parts, if anyone has ever wondered where all the oil comes from in your airbox... this is it. (Ducati owners you know what I'm on about right?).

Old vs New... another few grams saved...

Step 3; Using the original bolts install the block off plates, not forgetting to apply some Loctite. Jobs a goodun.

Yep still on stock suspenders, I have an Ohlins rear sitting in customs in Victoria as I type. Hope it gets here and installed before the 24th July (Round 3).Tack wrote:Good read. Thanks.

I should be able to make the 6 Hour at Phillip Island this year but on a friends R6, I'll be easy to spot, the slow one at the back.

I was wondering about the different maps and the traction control.
What maps do you have installed and what do you use them for.
What traction control level have you set and how much quicker does it make you??

"Off the chain"....! say no more.
Re: 2011 ZX10R Race bike build, from street to track.
From memory, I have the traction control at -5 for (1), -5 for (2) which is the same as the road going (1) and for setting three I have it at 0 keeping it for a wet track situation. Haveing had the bike on a soaked track with streams running across it on the stock road rubber it worked quite well.Tack wrote:I was wondering about the different maps and the traction control.

Before I had the race ECU altered traction control I found it too conservative even on setting (1) and ran with it switched off entirely, now I have it to a point where I can get on the gas with enough movement to let me know what is going on as well as getting decent drive out of Barbagallo's T6 for the uphill drag and run down the long straight to T7
Re: 2011 ZX10R Race bike build, from street to track.
The other riders with a race ecu have the same settings but are going a fair bit faster than I am. Both are A-Grade racers I'm a lowly C

Got busy tonight,
Still had the tank off from doing the block off plates and got to work loosening the nut and bolt at the top;

Take out the back wheel and you can easily access the bottom nut and bolt;

Moment of truth as I test the strength of my footpegs and lower the bike onto a pair of axle stands, pull the bolts out and let the swing arm drop down;

A bit of a twist and wiggle and the shock gets lifted out through the back... Actually quite easy to remove and it's out in less time that it took to read this post to this point.
Removed... straight into the skip with this one;

Its far sexier replacement, these things really are a work of art and I would quite happily frame one of these and hang it up in the lounge.

It's a shame that most of it will be hidden under bodywork, getting it in and in place is also a doddle. Top nut and bolt done up;

Bottom nut and bolt, just before I nipped it up, (I had to double check after uploading the photo);

Remote preload adjuster in place (Still not 100% on it's final orientation, but it does clear the swing arm and tyre).

Just need to get all the settings done now...

Re: 2011 ZX10R Race bike build, from street to track.
Been a long while since I updated but in the mean time back in July we were actually get some rain in Perth... not just the typical 3mm per month but proper down pours all week long. With tyre changing facilities at the track ranging from non-existent to very stretched I need to be better prepared for bad weather...
All the forecasts for Round 3 were pointing to rain and lots of it.
With that in mind I took the plunge and ordered these goodies... again with these things being so new second hand items were pretty much non existent, and with a potential wet race on 7 days away I had no option to go straight to Kawasaki... my credit card is still recovering.

Second set of rims complete with rotors and traction sensors.

Putting the whole lot together took minutes...

Full racing wets fitted in preparation for round three... bring it on Mother nature!!!!

And wouldn't you know it... it was a dry sunny (but cool day) sending myself to the verge of financial ruin seemed to do the trick for keeping the rain away.
