Wilf's new ride now x2 *LOTS OF PICS*

Post by wilf »

Hello all. Been a long time since I updated you all on what has been happening. So here it is.

You may remember old bike, a green 2004 zx-6r. Loved the thing to bits, was my first bike off my p's. However I got over commuting on it 400kms a week for my new job so I decided to sell it. It was unsuccessful and I ended up trading it in. It wasnt ideal, but I got a pretty ok price for it. Frustratingly after a few months of no responses, I had 3 enquiries within a week of trading it. GRRRRR. Any how, thats in the past.

Image
BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

So I traded for a bog stock 2010 Z1000. Incredible machine! So easy to ride, so much pull from low down and the suspension is so much better suited to me. I love it.

I took it out today to the old pac and loved every second of it!
Image
Just about got to the very edge :)

So up till now I've been added bits and pieces to it. I just can't leave things alone haha. Ill let the pictures tell the story.

Thats about it from me. Thanks for looking, ride safe!

Oh I saw someone on a black and green '11 Z1000 with a green and white kawasaki jacket today whilst I was heading away from OPH. They were pulled over the side of the road, across from where they sell the boats on the straight. I gave the thumbs up as I rode past, not sure if it was anyone from here?

Cheers fellas, she's a very comfy thing to ride and a lot of fun to ride. Total balst.

In other news,

Got meself a new toy off a member on here. A certain yellow yamaha which I took on as a mini project.
Image

Let me just take the chance to thank marksesh. He is a top bloke and very geniune and helpful. Thanks mate.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway for those interested, I took some pics on the process, got slack with it towards the end but meh. The bike was 100% in running order, just a little project to get blinging and minor mech repairs. It was my first attempt at something like this and I intended to keep the costs to a minimum. SO here goes!

Me and a mate stripped her naked 1 hour after I took the keys.
Image

That evening I proceeded to take the front end off.
Image

Took the forks off, inspected and cleaned. They came up pretty well and no obvious leaks.
Image

Revived the cluster a tad.
Image

Kept on taking bits off. Tank, radiator etc.
Image

Re-gasket-ed the cam cover, had a leak.
Image

Absolutely filthy rear shock. Cleaned that up.
Image

Basically the whole rear suspension area was in the state of that rear shocks. Took it apart and all the bearings in the linkages had seized with grime. Cleaned it all up, re-lubed and and all weird squeeks and noises are gone. All moves freely now. Image

Cleaned up and painted frame and swingarm.
Image

Repaired cracked stator cover with epoxy and painted.
Image

Now for the speed humps along the way. Front sprocket nut welded to drive shaft...
Image

Attacked with angle grinder...
Image
Image

Drilled and threaded a hole in the mddle of the shaft.
Image

Now a bolt goes in. With appropriately sized washers and spacers, I hope to keep the front sprocket at bay.
Image

Quick bling job on the sprocket cover.
Image

Front end back together with new grips, painted the upper triple tree, H-frame, Master cylinder.
Image

Brake lines from a Zx636!
Image

Calipers thoroughly cleaned, pistons cleaned and new pads. All bled with new fluid of course!
Image

New chain and sprockets! Front already got put on.
Image

Painted the rims satin black
Image
Image

This is what I used to help keep that front sprocket bolt in place. I have every confidence It will btw.
Image

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now, the finished product!!

Image
Image

New pegs, new rotors, oil + filter, coolant, repaired fairings and painted with 2 cans of paint + 1 can of clear =$45 paint job. Waiting on new mirrors. I intend to wack some good tyres and track it. whether or not this happens is a different matter haha. For now this is it.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience of a small project. Definitely satisfying, and learnt a great deal. Glad to report after a few small test rides, front sprocket is holding fine!
Thanks for looking, that is all. :kuda:
