Here's a practical way to understand the, "Julia Gillard Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme".
Imagine 1 kilometre of atmosphere and we want to get rid of the carbon pollution in it created by human activity.
Let's go for a walk along it.

The first 770 metres are Nitrogen.
The next 210 metres are Oxygen.
That's 980 metres of the 1 kilometre.
20 metres to go.
The next 10 metres are water vapour.
10 metres left.
9 metres are argon.
Just 1 more metre.
A few gases make up the first bit of that last metre.
The last 38 centimetres of the kilometre - that's carbon dioxide.
A bit over one foot.
97% of that is produced by Mother Nature.
Its natural.
Out of our journey of one kilometre, there are just 12 millimetres left.
Just over a centimetre - about half an inch.
Thats the amount of carbon dioxide that global human activity puts into the atmosphere.
And of those 12 millimetres Australia puts in .18 of a millimetre.
Less than the thickness of a hair. Out of a kilometre!

As a hair is to a kilometre - so is Australia 's contribution to what Julia Gillard calls Carbon Pollution.

Imagine Brisbane's Gateway Bridge, opened by Julia Gillard. It's been polished, painted and scrubbed by an army of workers till its 1 kilometre length is surgically clean. Except that Julia Gillard says we have a huge problem, the bridge is polluted - there's a human hair on the roadway. We'd laugh ourselves silly.

There are plenty of real pollution problems to worry about.

It's hard to imagine that Australia 's contribution to carbon dioxide in the world's atmosphere is one of the more pressing ones. And I can't believe that a new tax on everything is the only way to blow that pesky hair away.

I guess with the Greens now holding the balance of power in the Government, Julia has to be seen to be doing "the right thing" for the environment.

I thing climate change is the biggest load of crap. The world has been bluffed!

Sat down at the 2nd job to look at the books. Like I thought when the boss stopped paying Sales Tax and charged GST he kept the difference and added 10%. Looks like another excuse for the business to raise prices and Im sure there will be lots of others doing exactly the same

We do need to do something, call it insurance if you like as my way of thinking is what if they are right? I don't want to say I wished we had but didn't, however this carbon tax is a backward way of doing it. A far more efficient and effective way would be to lower taxes for carbon neutral or energy efficient businesses/ prodcuts, thus encouraging the industry.

All that happens under this system is we make something more expensive, pass it on to the end user as they know lower income earners will get tax relief, and we lose a large percentage through administrating it. Lets put it this way it is like giving the them a bucket of water and asking for it back but first they have to run around the oval, never much left it in by the time it gets back.

The biggest concern is the greens are saying that we need to stop all coal production for power stations - problem the tool heads aren't offering an alternative. Gas powered is more expensive and by the way not renewable, wind is no good for peak power, in fact is not much good for anything when there isn't any wind. Solar I found out doesn't work at night when I want my lights on (ebay bastards), the greenies won't let us build dams for hydro which is completely carbon neutral apart from the construction stage, tidal and wave technology is a great idea except horrendously expensive, no one wants nuclear power plant after Japan, fusion power, well we are still working on that. So unless these geniuses start promoting clean coal power and opening their minds a little we could be in for some fun times ahead.

There is 400 years of known coal reserves, so this is not something we should just throw away without looking ways to make it cleaner
